Today the racist in chief ordered the police to shoot tear gas and rubber bullets at peaceful protestors in Washington, DC who have been tirelessly protesting the murder of George Floyd and demanding justice for black lives. 1/
The police stormed the crowd on horseback to clear the streets for his photo-op so this pathetic man could leave his bunker to walk across the street and pose in front of a historic church holding a bible. 2/
The bishop of this church just went on national television to denounce him and his abuse of sacred symbols as a backdrop for his message, since it is antithetical to the teachings of Jesus Christ. 3/
Note, this happened right after his press conference in which he failed to address the systemic violence against black people in our country, much less mourn the 105K people who have died from the virus, including an outsized proportion of black and brown people. 4/
Instead, he promised to invoke the U.S.military to “dominate” the protestors. This is after his call with the Governors in which he announced he’s put a military general “in charge." In charge of what? The whole country? 5/
Apparently the Pentagon doesn’t even know what he’s talking about, because he would need to invoke the Insurrection Act of 1807 to declare martial law. Is that what’s next? 6/
I am outraged, heartbroken and afraid - of the violence that's happened already, and what we always feared could happen with this presidency, that this despicable man could mobilize the U.S. military to quell dissent. 7/
We know he wouldn't hesitate to co-opt this moment of collective grief, rage and loss to justify his agenda of division and domination. He doesn’t want peace nor unity, he and his supporters want chaos - they thrive on it. We will not stand down.
8/
Even though we're in the midst of a pandemic in which we have the highest number of cases in the world due to their criminal mismanagement, not to mention the subsequent financial crisis - we will not stand down. 9/
In memory of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arberry, and countless others who were murdered by the police, we rise in support and solidarity with everyone fighting in defense of black life, racial equality, justice and equal protection under the law for ALL. 10/
Please consider supporting the movement in defense of black life in whatever way you can. I’ve been donating and supporting several organizations, I’d welcome more suggestions. Nationally: @NAACP_LDF, @reclaimtheblock 11/
