Help. #Brexit. It's all been so long and I can't really remember what it did for us. And I can't find anything that tells me that.
So I jotted some notes below
I thought at least Leavers got something?
I must be stupid. I can't even find that.
We still plan to leave the EU
Based on a 2016 vote for something
That I think looks nothing like what has been described for December.
eg. unfettered trade seems off the table.
A Million to 1 chance
Has no documentation on what it will actually be
Yet we're 100% certain we must do it, whatever it is.
One of the things it used to be was about trade, with new partners outside the EU
And all our partners turned us down for quick trade deals
They turned out to be the hardest trade deals in history
In fact all of them have told us we'll get worse deal outside the EU
So that's kinda awkward
Another said we're so weak they'd wait for a better deal when we were desperate.
And the WTO that we claimed was the answer
Is being shut down by Trump who we also said was the answer
So the best we could get is a crappy side deal with him
Even a proper US trade deal can't replace Euope
We know that because the Government won't release the comparisons they've run.
If they were good they'd tell everyone
So maybe its about free movement
Except patel's weird immigration plan does almost nothing to change Europe movement.
And doesn't help the rest of the world including until recently charging NHS workers who caught #coronavirus for the privilege.
And inviting 3 million Hong Kong citizens a path to UK citizenship
So unless I missed something, the only people who now are going to suffer freedom of movement
I'm sure Brexit wasn't about everyone can come here but we can't go anywhere.
So it can't be freedom of movement.
So maybe it's sovereignty
But we're in the middle of disenfranchising sovereignty, removing representation in Parliament
And worse we've introduced unelected bureaucracy to interfere in democracy
And created ludicrous lies to make sure they're unaccountable.
So it can't be about sovereignty
But we can't even get air bubble deals without the EU.
For almost all our trade we must accept their standards
Not because they are punishing us
But because Canada, Japan, the US and everyone else accepts their standards of import
And because so much of our trade is with the EU, no one wants to adopt different standards just for the UK.
That would just cost more money and no one has any examples.
Which is a bit fruit loop after all this time, you'd expect a big back log on a leaflet we could get excited about.
With independence we will " " meh.
Plus if we're just adopting EU standards
Then it looks suspiciously like we handed control of our laws to the EU, while giving up the chance to influence them.
And that surely wasn't Brexit?
Was it all about Fish?
For a while it seemed like it.
But then we learned fishing was a miniscule part of our economy that can't be worth all this.
Some said that our noble hard working fisher men and women needed help anyway.
And we could see that.
Just huge fishing fleet corporations making millions
But we wanted control of our waters so we pushed on anyway
Then someone noticed almost all the fish we caught were then sold to the EU. They like fish more.
You could pack them in ice and fly them to say Australia, but that really killed profits even before #Covid19
Now it's impossible. Especially because without the EU we can't get those agreements
That since joining the EU we've increased our haul.
We now catch the second largest amount of fish, with a fleet designed for long range.
In a way we became the fishing fleet of the EU, except now we're leaving the EU.
And taking control
A very long time ago Brexit was about benefits. I accept all that went in 2017
But then I thought Brexit was at least about leaving.
But when I read back over this all.
I can't even see we Leave
I find myself asking what this weird trickery is. I'm sure the average voter doesn't know.
In particular it doesn't think about trade wars with China and the Global Recession post Covid where we'll be the only
To turn tarrif free trade INTO barriers before a recession
If that wasn't already a head scratcher, the largest non trade tarrif will be air bridges/bubbles
And we're already being excluded from those.
Due to mishandling #coronavirus
And no EU leverage.
But you see why im confused
As to why we'd move on with an antibrexit that isn't brexit at all.
Even in the way leavers provided it
So Mr Prime minister, you promised me opportunities in October.
But recently your promises...
And #cummings not to count it.
Above all else. Before you make a massive shift for us
I'd just like a small pamphlet. A5 size. The truth. No Spin
How this is good for all 66 million of us and our kids to come
I got you started PM⏬
