An 18 year old Salvi boy, #AndresGuardado who was helping an LA autobody shop with security issues in the Gardena District of LA was murdered by police on June 18th. They allege that he had a gun and ran away from them when they “approached” him.
His heartbroken family has said, “We didn’t know him to keep guns—he worked two jobs and was a good kid. We’re all dead inside.”
The auto shop owner whom Andres was helping for months said he never carried a gun was obviously scared when police drew their weapons on him. When asked about the decision by police to shoot Andres, he said, “There’s no reason.”
Meanwhile, the police insist on the ‘Why’d he run tho?’ argument, as if that justifies them shooting him multiple times in the torso or the fact that they destroyed the cameras around the property.

In fact, witnesses claim police never said ‘stop, freeze’.
They want us to be model immigrants and citizens and do things the right way: stay out of trouble, pay taxes, and be perfect with no margin for error. Don’t smoke. Don’t drink. Attend LA Trade-Tech. Consider joining the Army. Yet, no matter how much we try, they stay prowling.
With the cameras busted and the footage taken by the LAPD how am I to believe the gun they found on the scene with an illegal large capacity magazine wasn’t planted?
AND, even if the nene had an illegal weapon and he wasn’t a state licensed security guard how does that justify tearing into his body with bullets?
White boys are out here committing whole ass homicides, massacres, and terrorist attacks and are taken into custody. Not us tho. Not our kin.

Black/Brown/Indigenous persons are murdered and disappeared while simply trying to live. Boys. Girls. Men. Women. Womxn.
Migrant families escaping the horrific conditions in present-day El Salvador put the equity of their decision on the hopes of better life for their kids. We are led to believe we’re in a land of opportunity and that it’s ours to lose. This snaps us back into our gruesome reality.
I’m devastated because I see myself in Andres. Amid #BLM demonstrations, the #MMIW crisis, and so many other intersectional life threatening issues, we Central Americans, still have to fight against our erasure.
Then, even among ourselves we push back against the erasure of our most marginalized due to the ingrained anti-Blackness/anti-Indigenous sentiments and built-in homophobia.

While disproportionatel losing members of our community including Indigenous kids, womxn, and Black folk.
Numerous outlets have labeled Andres as Mexican. They’re not only wrong but they’ve refused to correct themselves. It’s disgusting and demoralizing. All of it weighs heavy on my heart and I mourn along with the Guardado’s.
It wrecks me knowing the loss of Andres exposes the irony of their namesake.
I believe their decision to seek an independent investigation is more than right—they, like Breonna Taylor’s family and others, deserve justice.

If you are having trouble discussing #BlackLivesMatter with your familia, and in the event they're struggling to understand how we can fight for both Andres and the litany of Black folks murdered by police, share this with them as a primer. #solidarity
