After learning that their ice creams are named after streets in #newfoundland , I filled out a survey asking @NLChocolateCo, “Why would you want to commemorate #colonialism by naming an ice cream flavour after it?”

I never heard back

For those asking why it was “such a big deal to me”

It was one of the many reminders that I didn’t “belong” in the city of #StJohns, #newfoundland & in #Canada. In that moment, I wished to go back to my homeland, India.

I had experienced my #microaggression quota for that week

After talking about it with you again today, I realise that what I wanted all along was a sympathetic ear from a loved one who “understood” me

Not another argument about the ice-cream thing being similar/diff from a colonial statue

So I post it on twitter 😂
