So we talked about Abolish Human Abortion earlier. Now let’s talk about Free the States, AKA the EMILY’s List for white dudes running for office on a “death penalty for abortion doctors” platform! #OSAUnmasked
The “what we believe” section of their website is an absolute waking nightmare. Under “criminalization” they say, “If abortion is murder, and we all know it is, it ought to be treated as such.” JESUS CHRIST! They think anti-abortion people don’t go HARD ENOUGH! #OSAUnmasked
Heck, here’s that whole paragraph. Again, they think pesky things like “rape exceptions” or “viability” or “the health of the mother” just make these MURDER LAWS more palatable to the public. All or nothing for these monsters! #OSAUnmasked#AbortionIsEssential
Another “What We Believe” for Free the States is “Ignore Roe.” Here’s them getting BIG MAD at other anti-abortion groups for even frickin’ acknowledging that SCOTUS exists. They’re like “F*ck SCOTUS! We are the law!” OK anyway on to the LOBBYING… #OSAUnmasked
Free the States tries to get bills that call for abolition passed, like this bill linked. They want to send shockwaves through the anti-abortion community by showing that abolition is possible. They think they're the BAD BOYS of anti-abortion #OSAunmaskedoklegislature.gov/BillInfo.aspx?…
It doesn’t matter how far these bills have gotten, what matters is that these extremists are trying to infiltrate the government and they’re getting meetings with political leaders. Elections matter, folks. State senators and state congressmen can pull a lot of BS! #OSAUnmasked

For #My40Days, let’s talk about MINDFULNESS about how we discuss abortion with friends, people who've had abortions, your aunt Linda, your dentist, and so on. Let’s start with a big one: why we’ve (mostly) stopped saying “pro-choice.”
We are ALL about letting people have agency over their decisions. So yes, naturally, “pro-choice” works well for that. #My40Days
But we also have to think about who “pro-choice” leaves out. The healthcare system and the WORLD are effed up and create all kinds of barriers for people who want to be parents. So for some people maybe it’s not a “choice” to have an abortion so much as a necessity. #My40Days
#RBG taught us to stand up to sexist ghouls. Now that she's gone, misogynists are twirling their gross mustaches, gearing up to replace her legacy with an anti-abortion extremist!
Said anti-abortion ghouls have started their crusade with a nationwide clinic troll-a-thon called "40 Days for Life." #My40Days
In this annual event, hordes of uninvited Catholic hatesplainers "stand guard" outside of abortion clinics for 40 days and 40 nights. Really, it's just stalking. #My40Days
Badass of the day: Shirley Chisholm! Today is the 49th anniversary of Chisholm entering the Democratic primary, making her the first Black woman to run for president of these United States.
When she ran for Congress, her slogan was “Unbought and unbossed.” She also spoke truth to power when she said, “If you don’t have a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.”
When she was elected to Congress — also the first Black woman to do that — they tried to hide her on the ag committee, which took her away from working for the people who actually elected her. Still she rose.
Although she was obstructed by the head of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (fuck you forever, Scott Lloyd and your creepy period tracking), she did eventually receive her abortion with the help of the @ACLU, activists, and @JanesDueProcess.
So today we thought we’d tweet out her statement from the time as a reminder of why we fight so hard for everyone to get the abortion care they need:
