+193 cases of #Covid_19 today in #Switzerland, at a high test positivity rate. This is terrible.

#Finland has rightfully closed their borders to us, more will follow if this continues.

Solutions to lower the case number, avoid a second wave and at some point reach #CoronaZero:
2/20
1) Generally, we need to be #proactive and #creative in our thinking and use our massive scientific and financial resources fully in a targeted and smart manner.
3/20
There is no typical Swiss compromise with this virus, this is a fight for our health and economic prosperity like we have not seen since World War II. We need to be humble and learn from the countries that are doing better than us.
4/20
The goal is simple: We need to be the best in the world for containment of #coronavirus.
5/20

2) For the clubs and bars, like @nicolaforster () proposed, mainly smaller parties outside (up to 100 people), with places provided by the communes (e.g Allmend in Zurich).
6/20
I would add that the parties need to be as socially distant as possible, even outside. Sitting, distanced events can be held indoors. In communes where noise can travel, #silentdisco (with radio headphones, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silent_di…) is also a good alternative at night.
7/20
Clubs and bars, all their staff and associated temporary workers or independent contractors like DJs, flyer distributors, graphic artists etc. need to be fully compensated, as @spzuerich at least partially proposed.
8/20
The clubs did not want to open up so quickly but were economically forced by a short-sighted Federal Council. It is not the Club’s fault the coronavirus spreads mostly in packed indoor rooms.
9/20
A total closure of all bars and clubs (which is not necessary, see the solutions above) costs 88 Mio CHF a month (source BAG: vecirex.net/docs/20200626-…), that is much cheaper than a lockdown of the country.
10/20
One for all, all for one is the #Swiss motto, let's live by it and carry everybody through this crisis!
11/20

3) Acceptance by @BAG_OFSP_UFSP that aerosolized spread can happen (nature.com/articles/d4158…), and thus widespread #mandatory #mask wearing in all crowded public places indoors, like shops, secondary schools and tightly packed restaurants between courses.
12/20

4) Massive expansion of quick testing (24h from swab to result as an absolute maximum), randomized testing of people without symptoms, esp. in old people’s homes and hospitals. Voluntary testing at border crossings. Massive use of rapid (spit) tests as soon as available.
13/20

5) Massive expansion of contact tracing efforts. All cantonal teams need to handle big case loads very quickly, and should follow national benchmarks. If necessary 24h tracing, with nights as admin support.
14/20

6) Spot checks on land border crossings for people arriving from risk countries. Establishment of an online registration process with QR code like #Spain has done, that has be shown upon entry (spth.gob.es).
15/20

7) Reinstatement of the federal home office recommendation.
16/20

8) Weekly publication of the @BAG_OFSP_UFSP and the cantonal health authorities of tracing statistics and info:

- Where are people get infected in % (e.g. work, restaurants, leisure, imported cases, or cannot be identified)
- mandatory information about clusters
17/20
- how quick are tests done in each canton (from swab to result)
- speed of contact tracing per case
- contact tracing workload (low, middle, high, over capacity)
- number of infected cases per postal code (if it is weekly data privacy is insured, like Zurich has done).
18/20

9) Genetic tracing of clusters, as the (still) current president of the Swiss National COVID-19 Science Task Force @eggersnsf has proposed (nzz.ch/wissenschaft/c…), and is done successfully in Iceland.
19/20

10) An honest, scientific communication strategy by the authorities, based on the concept of #safetyculture (#Fehlerkultur). Mistakes – as with the mask strategy –can happen, but should be openly admitted as such and corrected as soon as they are identified.
20/20
We are all learning about this virus as we go. Thus, we need to be open and honest with each other, both the inhabitants of this country, and the institutions that govern us.
