What makes an analyst excellent? Speed! But that's not as simple as it sounds. They need 6 kinds of speed... 1/🧵

#DataScience #Analytics #rstats #DataAnalytics

bit.ly/quaesita_speed
1) Speed of getting data that’s relevant. (Domain knowledge.)
2) Speed of getting data ready for manipulation. (Software skills.)
3) Speed of getting data summarized. (Mathematical skills.)
4) Speed of getting data summaries into their own brains. (Data visualization skills.)
5) Speed of getting data summaries into stakeholders’ brains. (Communication skills.)
6) Speed of getting the decision-maker inspired. (Business acumen.)
That last point about business acumen is plenty nuanced (and also the most important one on the list), so let me spell it out for you:
Alternative version:
6) Don't waste the decision-maker's time!
Beautifully visualized and effectively communicated trivia are a waste of time.
Exciting findings which turn out to be misinterpretations are a waste of time.
Meticulous forays into garbage data sources are a waste of time.
Irrelevant anecdotes are a waste of time.
Decision-makers, anything an analyst brings you that you don’t find worth your time… is a waste of time.

Analysts, strive to waste as little of your decision-maker's time as possible!
Don't be fooled by a simplistic interpretation of speed. A sloppy analyst and lazy thinker who keeps finding nonsense "insights" will only slow everyone down in the long run. It's the opposite of speed. Be better than that.
