Alastair rightly describes King David as “a father who, though angry, fails to act on behalf of his raped daughter (2 Samuel 13:21)”.
I wonder how many of David’s trials and griefs would not have happened if he had rendered full justice to Tamar and properly and promptly punished Amnon and the foxy Jonadab.
IMO, the fact that David chose the path of passivity / neutrality when Amnon raped Tamar, shows that David had not fully repented of his sin against Bathsheba and Uriah.
