A novel. Plot outline. Unknown young man rises to fame and fortune in the world of showbiz. Strikes up with bright sassy beautiful girl who, like him is famous. His family objects. Log kya kahenge? you see. He comes more and more to depend upon her faith in and love for him.
Everything is going swimmingly for them, fame, photo-ops, glamour, glitz, money, parties, and yes drugs. But who isn't into drugs.
Then, tragedy, he has a latent psychiatric illness, depressive disorder? biploar? who knows. She tries desperately to help as best she knows.
Both are sinking into a vortex of mental health problems. His family is in denial, Mental illness? In our family? No way! we are above all that; that is not us! And who the hell is this seductress who calls herself his girlfriend? Girlfriend? what does that even mean?
Is she living with him? are they sleeping together? That cannot be right! we're from Bihar! She has to be an evil seductress who has led him astray.
Then
Tragedy strikes. He is found dead, suicide in all probability. NO NO. But this is India only poor farmers kill themselves.
It can't be suicide, his family decide, that'll reflect on the family! people will talk. There has to be foul play involved, we need a scapegoat, we need someone to burn at the stake - a modern-day #sati. They complain, an investigation starts and snowballs
It grows into an open-ended witch-hunt. "There must be something we can pin on this witch". In the background, there is politics, an election looming, social media keyboard warriors engaging in a battle between his home state, her home state, and the state they're both in.
This is the new competitive federalism that the Prime Minister spoke about, Three police forces, multiple agencies, another aspiring female actor pissed off that attention has shifted from her, news anchors fighting for their bit of flesh.
But there is no happy resolution no redemption for anyone. Both the families are doomed, it is, after all, a tragedy unfolding, forces spiralling out of control, no time for apologies no heart to listen, too much hate, all-consuming bitterness.
The script has two endings that viewers can choose from:
A) reconciliation, he cannot be brought back to life but his memory can be preserved and his lover can help heal the wounds
B) no redemption except in the after-life: a tragic denouement

#India's obsession with Hindu #victimhood is not confined to Hindutva politicians who, one can assume, spread the canard of "Hindus under attack" for their own political agenda of power, control and coercion. This @Youtube video was posted on a family #WhatsApp group.

It shows a certain 'holy man', by his own description, a #Sanyasi telling his cheering audience a story to illustrate a) the harm caused by #secularism and b) how minority religions are favoured by the state.
It's a cock and bull tale, of course, but worth recounting to show the duplicity, the lies, the latent misogyny, the vacuous logic, the sheer vile propaganda of it all. Apparently, he is visited by a Maulvi and a Padre (!) who start arguing with him and then start beating him up!

Another daily record has been set by #India's #Coronavirus #epidemic. Yesterday there were a whopping 78,761 new infections taking the total to above 3.5Million well on course for the 4 Million prediction by 5 September.
Over the last 5 days the compound daily growth rate has been 2.27% per day. That sounds tiny but such is the power of compound growth that at 2.27% per day the doubling time (to 7 million cases) is 30 days. So we COULD be looking at 7 Million by early Oct.
In the last 14 days we added almost a MIllion new cases (well 9.53 lakhs actually) That figure is more than the cumulative total number of infections in all countries except Brazil America, and by a narrow whisker, Russia.

Part of the Central Vista rebuild project is a new Parliament Building - Triangular instead of Lutyens circular design- to house a greatly increased number of MPs.
I think this is a mistake. Not building a new Parliament, expanding the number of MPs.
This is a solution ion search of a problem, 900 MPs will create an even bigger mess than the present 542, the stench will rise even higher. To define the problem better we need to understand the source of the problem of under-performance of the political system in India
By Underperformance of politics I mean the responsiveness of elected representatives to the perceived needs and concerns of their constituents - esp those from the opposite political persuasion. IMHO the reason for this is the remoteness of New Delhi for most Indian citizens.

The paucity and stupidity of #India's official Government response to the scale of the #Coronavirus epidemic is shown by 2 tweets from Union Cabinet Ministers, Both seek to divert attention away from the enormous problem of 3 million cases, and a pole-axed economy. First, 1/5
The Union Minister for Health, @drharshvardhan tweets an old video of German Chancellor Merkel and French Pres Macron greeting each other with folded hands rather than a handshake as evidence of Hindutva India's #Vishwaguru soft-powers. 2/5
Then we have the External Affairs Minister, @DrSJaishankar tweeting an old BBC video-clip of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations by Ghanians. 3/5

To follow on from my #India #Coronavirus #epidemic tracker I post some charts in a follow-on thread that paint a data-picture of the epidemic in the States
The epidemic is still growing in all the states.

A thread.
I was alerted to a Newsweek paper by Yale professor of Epidemiology Harvey Risch in which he argues quite persuasively that #Hydroxychloroquin, #HCQ (= Azithromycin + Zinc) is an effective treatment for early-stage #Covid19 and has been opposed on spurious grounds
Here's a link to the Newsweek article. It refers to a paper by Risch in the Americal Journal of Epidemiology (#AJE) which details the evidence. newsweek.com/key-defeating-…
I looked at the #AJE paper. The abstract is here as a screen shot. It is freely downloadable as a pdf and there is a supplemental 'doc file with the details of 5 studies. Image
