Fish value chain entrepreneurs calling!!! Join us at 2pm WAT. @FarmersStories
Good afternoon, dear Twitter Fam, and a warm welcome to a new week and another splendid edition of #TheAfricanFarmersStories
We have a special guest today who will take us on his amazing journey as an agropreneur, Sejiro Michael Oke-Tojinu. Let's meet him... @FarmersStories
Sejiro Oke - Tojinu is a young farmer from Badagry Kingdom, Lagos State, Nigeria. He is a graduate of Fisheries and Aquatic Biology from the prestigious Lagos State University (LASU). Sejiro is married to his lovely wife and they have two handsome sons. #TheAfricanFarmersStories
Sejiro began to take interest in #Agriculture as a teenager from his mum who was engaged in all kinds of backyard farming both crops and poultry. He learnt a lot from her about the dignity in labour. #TheAfricanFarmersStories
Later, Sejiro started planting vegetables, including tomatoes, and made good money from it. While in the secondary school, Agricultural Science was his best subject but Sejiro was reading many other books on #Agriculture. His interest became a passion. #TheAfricanFarmersStories
Sejiro read a lot about rabbits and snails too, which he also raised and sold successfully, making him very popular within and outside his community. He was clearly different from his peers who were busy playing sports like football, etc. #TheAfricanFarmersStories #aquaculture
Sejiro continued learning & this time, from one farm to another in the quest for hands-on experience. Then, he met his first boss, Mr. Joseph Nwakpa who provided internship opportunity for him in fish hatchery management on a farm in Lekki, Lagos State. #TheAfricanFarmersStories
Sejiro’s grandpa was a fisherman. He helped Sejiro to develop interest in fishing as a hobby. When Sejiro heard that Fisheries was a degree program in LASU, he didn't hesitate to apply for it. According to Sejiro, it was ‘the best choice I ever made!’ #TheAfricanFarmersStories
Sejiro started a fish hatchery in his 2nd year in LASU & registered his farm business in 2005. He learnt a lot from lecturers, and support beyond the classroom. Sejiro juggled between schooling and his farm business. #TheAfricanFarmersStories #fisheries @funmishelika
Today, Sejiro Oke-Tojinu is the MD of Sejfarms Ventures and the CEO of Farmers Solution Consult. He specializes in Aquaculture, simply called fish farming, and its value chain.
Q1. Sejiro, welcome to the #TheAfricanFarmersStories, the programme that recognizes and celebrates the efforts and accomplishments of the farmers in #Africa. Please tell us about your growing up and schooling experience.

Opportunities in the Agriculture Value Chain: Coconut Palm
Coconut is the fruit of the Coconut Palm (Cocos nucifera). It is commonly classified as a drupe which is a fruit, a nut and a seed in one. Coconut is grown in more than 90 countries of the world, including Nigeria🇳🇬.

According to Agricdemy.com, “Coconut is one of the greatest gifts of nature to man because it produces a wide range of products”.
Alongside the products are several profitable activities and services that bring lots of benefits across the value chain.
/3 1. Coconut Production:
Coconut farming is one of the most profitable cash crop farming ventures. The Coconut farmer is the one who cultivates coconut palm trees for the production of coconut fruits.
You can engage in coconut cultivation in the following ways:
The agricultural industry is embracing technological trends, to streamline & ensure sustainable agriculture businesses. Drone technology is an amazing innovation, with potential for far-reaching effects across the agricultural space. #TheAfricanFarmersStories @FarmersStories
The use of drones in agriculture is the next technological wave, that will help in meeting the changing and growing demands of the future, driven by the growing population levels and changing climate patterns. #TheAfricanFarmersStories
Yes! The African Farmer's Stories is inviting you to be part of this. We want African farmers to use modern agricultural technology, both digital and mechanical, to boost the agricultural sector in a sustainable way so that AFRICA can RISE. #TheAfricanFarmersStories
Yesterday was #InternationalForestDay. It is a day set aside by the @UN to bring global awareness and attention to the significance of forests to the wellbeing of Planet Earth.
The theme for 2021 is “Forest restoration: a path to recovery and well-being”.
The @FAO defines a forest as "land spanning more than 0.5 hectares, with trees higher than 5 meters, and a canopy cover of more than 10 percent, or trees able to reach these thresholds in situ." #InternationalForestDay
According to @Wikipedia, forests provide a diversity of ecosystem services including:
- converting carbon dioxide into oxygen and biomass
- acting as a carbon sink, making them necessary to mitigate climate change #InternationalForestsDay
But there are gender-specific obstacles that put female farmers at a significant disadvantage even as they strive to make their mark in the industry and contribute exceptionally to the development of Planet Earth.
The Horn-Locking Exercise: State Governors versus Herdsmen
The dangerous insecurity experienced nationwide got to a head in Ondo State with a vacation order from the government to all illegal occupiers of the State's forest reserve areas.
Ondo State has been in the news for months now for the high rate of kidnapping, armed robbery, murder and callous attacks on citizens travelling on the highways, in broad daylight, by criminals hiding in the bushes and forest reserves and suspected to be herdsmen. #EndInsecurity
The story is the same all over the country - brazen criminals, masquerading as herdsmen attacking, maiming and killing innocent people, even razing down whole communities with impunity. Farmers have been some of the hardest hit, with loss of lives and property. #EndInsecurity
In a short while, we will commence our tweet chat with our guest, Atinuke Lebile, on #TheAfricanFarmersStories. Today's programme promises to be interesting and exciting at the same time. My name is Edobong Akpabio. Welcome! @Cutefarmer01 @FarmersStories @S4AfricaSMEs
She also serves as the Strategist Officer of Ogunmod Farms and Farmers Academy Ltd and founder of SHEAGRIC Initiative, an NGO focusing on encouraging and empowering young women into the agricultural value chain and #agribusiness #TheAfricanFarmersStories @bizafricaonline
