At the Heritage Fund Annual General Meeting...the UCP government just announced they’re doing a major new review of the Heritage Fund’s investment policy. First review since 2011. Finance Minister hasn’t told the public about this at all, a staffer announced it. #ableg #abpoli
Remember, the Minister has the right to direct specific investments.

Are we really to be expected to sit back and let him do this review without telling us? With the UCP’s track record so far, he expects us to trust him with this? #ableg #abpoli
Was just clarified that asset mix and overall investment policy in Heritage Fund is under major review by UCP. #ableg

Aimco used to have some climate risk disclosure and ESG criteria. Do we actually think this will be retained by a govt that denies climate change?
I worry that a major review of investment policy of OUR Heritage Fund will not be necessarily guided by forward-looking investment experts, but the vagaries of a band of shameless partisans who see $17 billion of public money. #ableg
Institutional investors are turning UP the dials on understanding climate risk. It’s an area that is constantly changing, and while AimCo could probably do more, they’re decently positioned on this issue. But our Premier called this a fad. Really. #ableg
I am very worried there’s plans for a major UCP review of the Heritage Fund that Albertans haven’t been told about. I wouldn’t trust these far-right populists to take my $5 to the store to pick up milk, let alone guiding the investment our $17b as the world changes.
And I sure wouldn’t trust a bunch of climate deniers with my own personal investments...let alone the money we saved from royalties in the 1970s...that belongs to us all. #ableg
CEO Kevin Uebelein, who I think still needs to be much more open with us all on the volatility trading losses, is right now explaining AimCo’s weighted carbon intensity of its investments. Their approach is consistent with the TFCD, mostly. More to do, no question about that.
But I do want to give AimCo credit where it is due on the climate risk issue. They started this in 2015 and by all accounts are scheduled to report to the public about their approach again this fall. That’s a good thing. #ableg

I’m at the Heritage Fund meeting, where Aimco is here to answer questions about their performance in investing our Heritage Fund. We have some big questions about Aimco’s performance relative to their own benchmarks for the past several years. #ableg
The govt is currently trying to obfuscate Aimco’s performance relative to their own benchmarks. In fact, they even tried to hide this performance, by withholding information on their performance, in the first-quarter Heritage Fund update. #ableg
The Heritage Fund belongs to ordinary people. Not bureaucrats. Not high-flyin traders. All of us. Most of its value is the tremendous resources working class Albertans pulled out of the ground during the Lougheed-era oil boom of the 70s. We expect it to be stewarded. #ableg

Jason Kenney is in #lethbridge today. Families here need answers about his lack of plan or resources for the return to school.
More than 10,000 people have already signed our petition calling on the UCP to fund a safer school plan for the fall. #ableg #yql #abed 1/
Right now, the UCP plans to cram up to 30 kids in to underfunded classrooms, without any extra teachers or assistants, space, PPE or supplies - leaving school boards scrambling.
Yes, it costs money to prepare fora global pandemic. They've had since March to figure it out. 2/
And since March, they've found plenty of money for the following:
-Accelerating $4.7 billion in handouts to already-profitable corporations
-$30 million for an "energy war room," an amateurish propaganda effort that has done nothing but serially embarrass itself 3/ #ableg

Tonight, my friend @MarieFrRenaud pointed out, during debate, that some members undertake intimidating, unparliamentary behaviour in the House. The women on our side of the House often deal with staring, posturing, scoffing and other non-verbal forms of harassment. #ableg
I've been around #ableg for almost 20 years as staffer/ observer/MLA. There's always debate, there's always heckling. It's a floor of a legislature in a Westminster Parliament. Rules-based, orderly debate includes well-placed heckles. That's not intimidating, it's the job.
But. A man turning his chair around to stare at an MLA while they speak, scoffing at everything they say, puffing himself up in his chair, laughing at the MLA trying to speak, continually trying to throw them off with verbal and non-verbal harassment... isn't the rules. #ableg

By the time the UCP American-Style Health Care bill passes, the CDC estimates 160,000 Americans will have died of coronavirus.
This bill allows for-profit clinics, hospitals. It allows govt to delist a bunch of services so you'll have to pay for them. #ableg THREAD.
It used to be the few for-profit clinics in the system had to prove they were going to add to reducing wait times and wouldn't siphon resources from the public system. The new UCP American for-profit hospitals don't have to prove that anymore. This isn't about wait times. #ableg
This is about opening up a new market for private health insurance and for-profit hospitals. The UCP wants Albertans to look south, during a pandemic where a botched response and lack of health care has cost so many American lives, with envy. Strange political strategy. #ableg

Hey #Calgary, I have to say I feel so worried for your many businesses & livelihoods disrupted at 10 o'clock last night when we all heard Mr. Kenney & the UCP changed their minds about your city's reopening. The Premier's 11th-hour decision is expensive. (Thread) 1/ #AbLeg #yyc
Fact is, the UCP and their Calgary MLAs would have known many days ago that #yyc virus numbers remain a concern. People warned about this, but it seems Mr. Kenney preferred a nice political story and he'll play games with the #Calgary economy and jobs to get it. #ableg 2/
Look, it's not a choice between "reopening" or "not re-opening." Mr. Kenney often posits this false &dishonest choice in his remarks. It's a question of reopening with a plan or without one. With no support for small biz in guidelines or PPE, no help with costs...#yyc #ableg 3/

This morning, Jason Kenney's close friend and economic advisor, took to twitter to share his regrettable opinions on Canada's worst mass shooting and the coronavirus. Here are my thoughts. 1/

First, let me once again extend my condolences to Nova Scotians who lost loved ones in this tragedy. The loss is unimaginable, and the ability to grieve is made doubly difficult by the circumstances. My heart goes out to the entire province. 2/
New reports have surfaced indicating the murderer first got into an argument with his partner, one of the victims, at a party. The murderer assaulted her at his cottage. We have few details, but this didn't stop @jackmintz from displaying extremely poor judgement. 3/
