I have reported 16 articles before. Unfortunately, some still think there's a lack of 'evidence'. Reporting 8 more studies. Now we have 22 articles including an RCT. It's time to act. We have enough evidence to work on.
1. Study involving 185 Germans revealed 14.7 times more risk of death from #COVID19 patients with 12 ng/dl Vit-D level. mdpi.com/2072-6643/12/9…
2. A retrospective, observational analysis in 191,779 COVID 19 patients from 50 states of Columbia revealed a positive association between lower #SARSCoV2 positivity rates and higher circulating 25(OH)D levels.
3. Turkish study with 149 pts reported 34 (22.8%) & 103 (69.1%) had Vit-D insuf. & def., respectively. Mean serum 25(OH)D level was significantly lower in pts with severe-critical COVID-19 compared with moderate COVID-19 (10.1 vs. 26.3 ng/mL, p<0.001). ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P….
4. A quasi-experimental study reported residents of a nursing home who had regular bolus Vitamin D had 9 times lesser COVID 19 deaths in frail elderly. mdpi.com/2072-6643/12/1…
5. Study from Iran involving 73 subs reported higher levels of 25(OH)D were associated with significantly less extent of total lung involvement (P = 0.004). Also, Vit-D def. < 25 ng/mL was associated with significant mortality risk. link.springer.com/article/10.100…
6. A meta-analysis (2nd) of 6 studies with 377,265 patients reported a low serum vitamin D level was associated with 1.5 times increased risk of COVID-19 infection & 1.8 times risk of hospitalization but not in-hospital death. medrxiv.org/content/10.110…
7. A study from China with 80 healthy controls & 62 COVID 19 pts found significantly higher Vit-d def. in COVID-19 cases (41.9%) compared to healthy controls (11.1%). Def. was the greatest in severe/critical cases (80%), compared with mild cases (36%). tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…
8. "Vitamin D Mitigates COVID-19, Say 40+ Patient Studies (listed below) – Yet BAME, Elderly, Care-homers, and Obese are still ‘D’ deficient, thus at greater COVID-19 risk - WHY?" - @bmj_latest article. bmj.com/content/371/bm…
1. No study has claimed Vit-D as a COVID cure, basically, there's no proven cure until today. Yet, costly drugs are being used worldwide 2. Mounting evidence that showing an association between low Vit-D level & COVID 19 disease severity & mortality is undeniable.
3. It's a known fact that Vit-D is an indispensable immuno-modulatory agent. There's no harm in prophylaxis under a supervision 4. There are countless studies associating Vit-D with infectious and non-communicable diseases 5. Correcting a deficiency is always recommended.
The orthodox mentality to deny food and nutrition as an integral part of standard care needs to go. No recovery is possible without a nutritious diet. Also, diet is the 3rd most prevalent cause of death worldwide. And, these are not hypotheses but proven by scientific data.
Tomato:One of the most basic vegetables (originally a fruit) in Indian cuisine is a powerhouse of nutrients - Vitamin K1, B9, C, potassium, antioxidants - lycopene, beta-carotene, naringenin & chlorogenic acid.
Thread discussing the potential role of tomato in health promotion.
1. Nutritive value: 95% water & 5% carbs & fibre. A 100 g small raw tomato contains 1.5 g of insoluble fibres, great for our gut health.
2. Potassium: Associated with a lower risk of stroke & cardiovascular diseases. A meta-analysis of 11 studies involving ~247k subjects reported higher dietary potassium intake is associated with lower rates of stroke & other heart ailments. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/21371638/
#VitaminD and Respiratory illness: Why D is crucial in #COVID19 management?
Evidence on Vitamin D physiology has revealed that Vitamin D not just plays a role in calcium homeostasis but a crucial component to prevent respiratory illnesses.
Thread with 12 studies.
1. Respiratory Tract Infection:
A. A study from India involving 80 cases & 70 controls, aged 2-60 months concluded that subclinical D def. & nonexclusive breastfeeding were significant risk factors for severe Acute Lower Respiratory Tract Infection. nature.com/articles/16018…
1.B. Epidemic Influenza: Hope-Simpson hypothesized that solar radiation produced a ‘seasonal stimulus’ that profoundly affected the pathogenesis of influenza A. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…
Thread: Basic information and myth-busting on #Ketogenic diet (KD):
1. It's NOT a fad diet. Wrongful practice by untrained professionals made the diet a fad 2. It's a high fat, normal protein, very low carbohydrate diet 3. Ketogenic diet doesn't include high protein. (1/6)
4. KD is ratio specific. The ratio between Fat: Carbs+Protein usually ranges from 1.5:1 to 4:1 5. Mostly used as a therapeutic diet for uncontrolled epileptic patients 6. Each recipe is hand calculated by a trained dietitian. (2/6)
7. Each ingredient, mentioned in a recipe is weighed raw by a kitchen weighing scale 8. No extra food is taken apart from the one's mentioned by the dietitian 9. No supplement is prescribed unless necessary 10. No vinegar is recommended. (3/6)
29th September is celebrated as #WorldStrokeDay. Diet & Nutrition is one of the major components to keep your heart healthy & prevent stroke. A thread with vital nutritional information. 1. 4 exotic vegetables that are packed with fiber, vitamins & antioxidant minerals.

Role of Zinc (Zn) during #COVID19: Probably The 2nd most important nutrient after #VitaminD. Zn is a must with antivirals in standard COVID care.
1. A study from Spain with 249 pts reported a zinc deficiency increased the risk of death by 2.3 times. medicalxpress.com/news/2020-09-z…
2. A study from Japan reported Zn deficiency in 14% pts who remained mild to moderate & 84% among them later progressed into severe COVID 19. ijidonline.com/article/S1201-…
3. A study from India with 47 COVID 19 pts & 45 healthy controls revealed that the COVID 19 pts had significantly lower Zn level & developed more complications (70.4% Vs. 30.0%, p=0.009). Zn def. pts also had a prolonged hospital stay. (7.9 d Vs 5.7 d). ijidonline.com/article/S1201-…
