THREAD: #VitaminD and #COVID19 Studies (Series 2):

I have reported 16 articles before. Unfortunately, some still think there's a lack of 'evidence'. Reporting 8 more studies. Now we have 22 articles including an RCT. It's time to act. We have enough evidence to work on.
1. Study involving 185 Germans revealed 14.7 times more risk of death from #COVID19 patients with 12 ng/dl Vit-D level.
mdpi.com/2072-6643/12/9…
2. A retrospective, observational analysis in 191,779 COVID 19 patients from 50 states of Columbia revealed a positive association between lower #SARSCoV2 positivity rates and higher circulating 25(OH)D levels. SARS-CoV-2 NAAT positivity rates and circulating 25(OH)D lev
3. Turkish study with 149 pts reported 34 (22.8%) & 103 (69.1%) had Vit-D insuf. & def., respectively. Mean serum 25(OH)D level was significantly lower in pts with severe-critical COVID-19 compared with moderate COVID-19 (10.1 vs. 26.3 ng/mL, p<0.001).
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P….
4. A quasi-experimental study reported residents of a nursing home who had regular bolus Vitamin D had 9 times lesser COVID 19 deaths in frail elderly.
mdpi.com/2072-6643/12/1…
5. Study from Iran involving 73 subs reported higher levels of 25(OH)D were associated with significantly less extent of total lung involvement (P = 0.004). Also, Vit-D def. < 25 ng/mL was associated with significant mortality risk.

6. A meta-analysis (2nd) of 6 studies with 377,265 patients reported a low serum vitamin D level was associated with 1.5 times increased risk of COVID-19 infection & 1.8 times risk of hospitalization but not in-hospital death.
medrxiv.org/content/10.110…
7. A study from China with 80 healthy controls & 62 COVID 19 pts found significantly higher Vit-d def. in COVID-19 cases (41.9%) compared to healthy controls (11.1%). Def. was the greatest in severe/critical cases (80%), compared with mild cases (36%).
tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…
8. "Vitamin D Mitigates COVID-19, Say 40+ Patient Studies (listed below) – Yet BAME, Elderly, Care-homers, and Obese are still ‘D’ deficient, thus at greater COVID-19 risk - WHY?" - @bmj_latest article.

Conclusion:

1. No study has claimed Vit-D as a COVID cure, basically, there's no proven cure until today. Yet, costly drugs are being used worldwide
2. Mounting evidence that showing an association between low Vit-D level & COVID 19 disease severity & mortality is undeniable.
3. It's a known fact that Vit-D is an indispensable immuno-modulatory agent. There's no harm in prophylaxis under a supervision
4. There are countless studies associating Vit-D with infectious and non-communicable diseases
5. Correcting a deficiency is always recommended.
The orthodox mentality to deny food and nutrition as an integral part of standard care needs to go. No recovery is possible without a nutritious diet. Also, diet is the 3rd most prevalent cause of death worldwide. And, these are not hypotheses but proven by scientific data.
Correction: Now we have 24 articles on this subject, not 22.
