Here is a summary of today’s #COVID19AB update. Teams at Alberta Health and AHS worked all weekend to fix the technical problems affecting our reporting system. Dashboards are updated today except our overall testing numbers which will be updated later this week. (1/12)
On Nov 8, we IDd 644 new cases. There are almost 8,000 active cases and Alberta’s positivity rate is now approx. 5%. There are 192 people in hospital including 39 in ICU. Sadly, I must report 7 deaths. My heart goes out to those mourning a loved one. (2/12)
There are active alerts or outbreaks in 285 schools (about 12% of all schools in the province). These schools have 911 active cases incl. 57 on watch. In school transmission has likely occurred in 123 schools (about half have had only 1 new case as a result). (3/12)
Outbreaks have been declared at Calgary Drop-In Centre and Alpha House. We are taking these very seriously; screening of staff and shelter clients is underway. (4/12)
Rising case numbers make it challenging to participate in traditions safely but we can still honour traditions like Remembrance Day and Diwali by making changes. Remembrance Day is on Wed.; it’s important to come together to honour sacrifice. (5/12)
Ceremonies & tributes will look different this year but we can still commemorate the day while protecting one another. Please participate virtually if possible. Organizers should respect gathering limits and consider ways to screen people. If you feel unwell, stay home. (6/12)
Diwali is on Sat. & is a special occasion for many Albertans. Keep gatherings small & no more than 15 when in an area on enhanced precautions. Connect virtually when you can, wear a mask when in close contact w/ anyone not in your cohort (incl. indoors) & stay home if sick.(7/12)
If you are in #yeg or #yyc, please do not host anyone at your home who does not live with you & don't attend a gathering at a home where you don’t live.Outside the home, keep gatherings as small as possible,& no more than 15 in total when in any area on enhanced precautions.(8/12)
This weekend we saw a daily record for cases on Sat. followed by high #s on Sun. & today. If we do not bend the curve back soon,we may see further surgeries postponed/other impacts on health services. The rate of increase and rising hospitalizations are extremely concerning (9/12)
We are assessing measures closely. If needed, we will not wait 14 days before recommending additional measures. We need to get our cases down to below 100 new cases per day in our big cities, with a growth rate, or R, of less than 1. (10/12)
Currently, growth rate in #yeg and #yyc is 1.1 and the rest of Alberta has an R value of 1.2. I understand the fatigue and frustration, and the desire to go back to the old normal but COVID-19 does not play favourites. (11/12)
We all have a role to play in suppressing transmission and together we have the power to lower our case counts. We are strongest when we work together. (12/12)

Here is a summary of today’s #COVID19AB update. On behalf of AHS I want to acknowledge Albertans & our contact tracing team for notifying 43K+ close contacts from Nov.6-9. Thank you to cases & contacts who worked w/contact tracers. We have to keep this effort up. (1/16)
Together w/limiting social bubbles, maintaining distance, masking & staying home if sick, the efficiency & completeness of contact tracing efforts is critical to stemming new cases in AB. Today, AHS is launching an online portal for automated texting of close contacts. (2/16)
Confirmed cases can use the site to enter info of known close contacts. Once info is reviewed by the contact tracing team w/the case, the tool delivers a text to close contacts & informs them of exposure & to isolate. The name of the positive case is not disclosed. (3/16)

We have encountered a technical issue in the reporting system, so we will be unable to provide detailed #COVID19AB case numbers today. This has not impacted our ability to identify & follow up on new cases, only our daily dashboard. (1/14)
As part of our usual quality assurance process, the team discovered some internal discrepancies that needed to be addressed so I could feel comfortable we were presenting data as accurately as possible. Tomorrow, we will provide a detailed update for both days. (2/14)
I can tell you that about 800 new cases were identified in the last 24 hours. (3/14)

Here is a summary of today’s #COVID19AB update. I would like to acknowledge all of the healthcare workers across AB supporting our pandemic response. Behind every case is a long list of people working very hard. I hope you know your work is making a difference. Thank you. (1/12)
We underwent a system upgrade over the weekend & were unable to share numbers yesterday. Thank you for your patience. Over the last 4 days, we averaged 567 new cases/day. This is a large & troubling number. On Fri. we IDd 581 new cases & conducted 13,100+ tests. (2/12)
On Sat. we completed 13K+ tests & IDd 525 new cases. Sun. we diagnosed 592 cases & had almost 11,300 tests. Yesterday, we conducted 8,400+ tests and IDd 570 new cases. Our positivity rate has risen to 6.8% & almost 9% in #YEG. There are 167 people in hospital w/27 in ICU. (3/12)

Here is a summary of today’s #COVID19AB update. More than 21,800 people have recovered from COVID-19. In the last 24 hrs we have ID’d 477 cases & conducted more than 12K tests. 130 people are in hospital, including 18 in ICU. We are monitoring hospital capacity closely. (1/10)
I must also report 5 new deaths. Every death, caused by COVID-19 or something else, is a terrible loss for those who loved that person. I offer my heartfelt condolences to everyone who has lost a loved one to COVID or any other illness during these difficult months. (2/10)
There are active alerts or outbreaks in 249 schools, with 730 cases total. This includes 111 schools on outbreak including 45 on the watch list. So far, in-school transmission has likely occurred in 87 schools. Of these, 48 have seen only 1 new case occur as a result. (3/10)

Here is a summary of today’s #COVID19AB update. We have crossed a tipping point in managing spread & we’re losing the balance we’ve been seeking. COVID-19 hospitalization growth is not above our trigger point of 5% but we must address the situation we are in now. (1/11)
This weekend’s #s tell the story. We ID’d, on average, 480 cases/day over the weekend. Fri saw 364 cases w/16K+ tests conducted. We ID’d 572 new cases Sat & completed 17K tests. Yesterday had 504 cases & almost 12,700 tests. 118 people are in hospital, incl 16 in ICU. (2/11)
Sadly, I must report 7 more deaths. Many are struggling with the loss of loved ones, from COVID-19 or other causes. We must change the trend of COVID-19 spread to prevent more losses & growth in hospitals & ICU. (3/11)

Here is a summary of today’s #COVID19AB update. 19,500 Albertans have now recovered, almost 850 more since Friday. We completed 13K+ tests in the last 24 hours and identified 323 new cases. Our provincial positivity rate was about 2.5%. (1/10)
116 people are in hospital incl 16 in ICU. Our compounded daily COVID-19 hospitalization rise is 3.1%; 5% is our trigger threshold. The rise appears to be driven by a # of factors incl an increase in case counts & hospital outbreaks. 23% of COVID-19 ICU beds are in use. (2/10)
I am sad to report 1 new death. We’ve lost many Albertans to many different causes since the pandemic began. Each was a person – not a number. All of us who know someone grieving a loss can reach out & offer support. It is 1 of many ways each 1 of us can make a difference. (3/10)
