Time to talk a little bit about #ScreamsAmongstTheStars, my minimalist #Space#Horror#TTRPG that is being funded through Kickstarter right now! It’s built under the #IntoTheOdd engine with some modifications! Read along for more info!
In this #Game you play as a spacer, an individual working in the far reaches of space, where new colonies are being established. You may be a crew of space truckers, miners, soldiers, scientists or even bounty hunters. You won’t be prepared for what you’ll find anyway.
In the frontier, resources are scarce and you have to pay attention to what you are carrying and the survival gear that you have. Things breaks. There isn’t much around, so make the best use of what you have.
Talking about this, the game comes with a healthy list of gear that can indicate the kind of situations you will find yourself, and encourage you to use it in creative ways. We have a list of weapons too, but not too detailed as combat isn’t really the focus here.
Your ship and the types of job you and your crew usually do get some attention too. And there are rules for piloting, traveling through the stars and actions for the whole crew. A lot of weird things can happen as you jump from sector from sector!
The game comes with a guide for players to get familiarized with the rules and the style of the game. Space exploration, frontier work and encountering strange phenomena!
As a horror game, there is also rules for stress and Crisis events where your character suffers for a while to cope with the weird phenomena in space and the alien ruins they find. Reality isn’t the same as you remember!
And space is pretty dangerous by itself. Space is a natural horror setting and the game supports this by itself.
#ScreamsAmongstTheStars also comes with some guidance to help referees running it in accordance with the style of the fiction that inspired the game! It has to do both with the genre and the Old School #TTRPG style.
How about #Aliens? Yeah, the game has those, in many different types, avoiding focusing only on the flesh eating, cheat busting, but offering many different possibilities! Here’s one of them!
But what happened to Earth? Well, it’s a distant planet but many factions that originated there have influences in the game setting. Governments, corporations, alliances and rivalries are part of the lore and can help complicate the horror even more!
And, of course, there are many many tables and resources to help you create planets, situations, weird events, alien ruins...
And to create jobs, incoming disasters, random events. Space can be really weird and horrifying even without aliens wanting to bite your head off!
So that’s #ScreamsAmongstTheStars! If you like what you saw here, make sure to guarantee your copy below!
1. #TheDeadAreComing was created inspired by #ElectricBastionland and #Mausritter system and organization, as well as other influences (including #Troika). Character creation is super straightforward and gives you a lot to work with nonetheless!
2. You get details, a background, suggested names and some items that will help you determine who your survivor is and what are they like. Don’t get too attached though, life isn’t easy in a #ZombieApocalypse!
#Horror#TTRPG#AdventureHook 01: The ghost of a drag racer is terrorizing the highway in the outskirts of the city, killing drivers in the night. Full of hate, he desires revenge against those that killed him. His former partner sabotaged his car to get away with other crimes.
#Horror#TTRPG#AdventureHook 02: In the local university, students bring back an old and banned cult, worshipping a demon of secrets. Sacrifices are made in exchange of knowledge and influence. But someone decides it’s too not enough and now harbor a demon inside them.
A #Thread about #Writing and #Creating#TTRPG stuff!
I am kinda proud of my productivity, and although I see a lot of room for improvement, I think it could be useful to share some unpretentious tips.
Bear in mind that this is my process and thing can be different for others.
1. Don’t wait for inspiration or a great idea, just write! I know time is an issue but we all have 24 hours in a day. We can find time in the crannies. Between activities. 10 minutes here, 15 there. Bit by bit we can accumulate a lot of stuff. Use what you have at reach.
I use my cellphone for most of my writing and note taking. Google docs and OneNote are free and very helpful for that. Start small. A NPC, a monster a location, and grow from there. Build on top of what you made before.
