🔴The Federal Council intervened today +++ Strict national wide measures in Switzerland to be applied from December 12 until January 20 +++ All explained in this thread 🔴 #CoronaInfoCH#Switzerland#COVID19
While many cantons introduced new measures this week, the Federal Council decided to intervene due to a fast rising infection rate. They held a meeting and a press conference this evening. #CoronaInfoCH
«We need to take over control» said the Federal Council. The numbers are rising too fast and the situation seems to get out of hand otherwise.
Since the Cantons are currently in charge about new individual measures, the Council can't force national wide measures that easilly without calling out a nationalwide crisis. Therefore the Council *strongly* suggests a package of new measures starting 12.12 - 20.01.
This includes:
- All gastronomy, shops, leisure and culture facilities to close by 7pm and whole Sunday
- Private gatherings max 5p from 2 households (exc. 24-26 & 31.12.; 10p)
- Public events banned
- No cultural events
These are still *recommendations*, but if the cantons disagree, the Council announced they can take steps and have the power to decide. The idea is to ("hopefully not") trigger a state of escallation. It's a classic but complicated Federal scenario.
They also added another layer of pressure: «We will evaluate and introduce stricter measures on December 18 if needed»
Basically it means, that these new measures are to be intact national wide – but introduced by the cantons individually, for the sake of peace and diplomacy, and to avoid legal complications so to say – from December 12.
How schools will be affected by this is still pending.
Ski resorts can remain open – but what happens on their Sundays is also tbc.
Meanwhile they work on a Federal level, together with the cantons, on strategies about how to support affected businesses.
Christmas and New Years Eve: The Federal Council works on a solution where Christmas can be celebrated – the midnight mass in Churches should be possible. Also the gastronomy curfew for NYE can be stretched. TBA.
If cantons want to, according to their individual situation, introduce even stricter measures, they are still able to do so.
Finances: Sommaruga says that this is still pending and there will be discussions with the cantons about 'heavy cases' and 'what is possible'

The situation in schools is currently tense, but stable, said an official. The main goal is that the children and young people can attend school and complete their semester and graduate regularly.
Since higher case numbers were recorded after the holidays, especially at the Sekundarstufe II, the high school students and Berufsschule students will stay home in a special week after the Christmas holidays until January 11, 2021.

Germany decided to put Switzerland on their list of high risk countries. This generally means that when entering Germany from Switzerland, one has to either present a negative Covid-Test or go into a 14 days quarantine. #CoronaInfoCH
Instead of quarantine: One can, as mentioned, present a Covid-Test that is not older than 48 hours. After entering without a test and going into quarantine, a test can be made too. Quarantine can also be ended once a negative test result is present.
