THREAD:

Going on 6 years of war & 4 years of @realDonaldTrump's disregard for the lives of millions of Yemenis, @JoeBiden has promised a policy reset. He's repeatedly called for an end to US participation & weapons in the #Yemen war. #YemenCantWait

truthout.org/articles/biden…
To end U.S. complicity in this war, @JoeBiden must start his policy reset on day one by stopping weapons deliveries to the Saudi-UAE coalition, including Trump’s recently proposed $23 billion sale to the #UAE. #YemenCantWait #StopArmingUAE

huffpost.com/entry/trump-ua…
@JoeBiden must work with Congress to pass a Yemen War Powers Resolution prohibiting intel sharing, logistical support & spare parts transfers for coalition airstrikes. Such a demonstration of support from Congress will help Biden pressure warring parties to end the violence.
Becoming the first @POTUS to sign a war powers resolution will help us prevent similar future catastrophes by Congress's role in war making. It will set a powerful precedent, deterring presidents from using military force without a debate and vote in #Congress.
Secondly, @JoeBiden should immediately reverse @SecPompeo's decision to cut $73 million in humanitarian aid to northern Yemen, and expand funding for malnutrition and disease. He must pressure Saudi and UAE to expand their funding pledges for #Yemen too.

Lastly, @JoeBiden must work with the @UN to bring about a political settlement to the conflict. They must double down on the #diplomacy needed to bring the warring parties to a ceasefire, end the #blockade and create lasting #peace.

unicef.org/press-releases…
6 years of unimaginable human suffering is more than enough. #YemenCantWait any longer. With urgency, @JoeBiden must fulfill his promise to cut support for the war and prevent #Yemen from plunging further into #famine.

By working with #Congress, the @UN, US allies, regional and local actors, and representatives of Yemeni civil society — especially women — @JoeBiden can help all sides find the road to peace in #Yemen.  #YemenCantWait

THREAD:

This International Human Rights day I'm thinking about humanitarian crisis in #Yemen and the vote in the Senate yesterday to enable a leading driver of the violence in Yemen, the #UAE. #YemenCantWait #InternationalHumanRightsDay @AkbarSAhmed

huffpost.com/entry/trump-ua…
Last night, the #US Senate just said Trump can send $23 billion in sophisticated weapons to the #UAE, including #F35s, Reaper drones, and munitions. The UAE is a leading driver of violence in the #Yemen & have helped push millions to the brink of famine. #YemenCantWait
The #UAE has also been arming Al Qaeda affiliates and other militias in Yemen with US made weapons. The silver lining is that most Dems voted against and that Biden has the chance to block delivery of these deadly weapons in the new year. #YemenCantWait

I'm disappointed the Senate failed to pass bipartisan measures to block the sale of billions of dollars worth of advanced weaponry to the UAE.
While the vote today came up short, what’s clear is that there is strong bipartisan opposition to these rushed sales, which includes nearly every Democrat in the U.S. Senate. @JoeBiden should heed this bipartisan message and block delivery of these weapons after taking office.
The UAE has played leading role in the Saudi-UAE led coalition’s bombardment and blockade of Yemen since 2015, which has pushed millions of to the brink of famine.
