1/ Thread — #EatingWindowExperiment initial thoughts...

(If you need a primer, see the experiment design here: cholesterolcode.com/eating-window-…)

All in all, this turned out pretty well. Yes, I had to amend in tighter fasting window timing after the first day....
2/ Going from evening to midday was a very meaningful change with regard to how challenging it would be.

(For details on that, see cholesterolcode.com/eating-window-…)

I normally don’t like fasting more than 14 hours. But this window of 10am-2pm (3 meals) was surprisingly easy.
3/ I think the key was to intentionally eat enough calories that would have normally been over the course of a day anyway. That said, I might have been able to further restrict how much I eat in the last meal (2pm).
4/ Thus, it’s easy to imagine a scenario where I’m tweaking back the total food in that bloc by small amounts until I ended up with a sweet spot, assuming no additional decline in my basal metabolic rate, sleep, etc.
5/ Speaking of sleep, it was pretty comparable between both phases. Perhaps coincidentally, I had more dream recall in the tighter fasting phase. However, last night included some textbook anxiety dreaming. Regardless, it’s too small a sample size to draw much conclusion.
6/ after the blood draw this morning, I’m actually going to add a bonus phase for one additional week and retest again. I’ll be eating a low carb-ish meal I was having during covid that I suspect was making me gain slightly more weight, but I might’ve been simply overeating.
7/ I’m going to match the calories consumed to this experiment and see if my fasting insulin next week will be noticeably higher. I hypothesize it will.

I’ll be weighing myself as well, but won’t put too much stock in marginal weight gain given likely water retention.
8/ But perhaps of even greater interest is getting all the wide spectrum labs for a tight comparison with this diet vs the baseline. I’ll do a write up on this “bonus phase” and the exact diet in the next day or two.

1/ Someone recently tweeted that hospital food is unhealthy, but that they aren't going to change lifelong habits, thus showcasing photos of this isn't very helpful.

That's actually lingered with me for several days. Maybe because I feel exactly the opposite...
2/ Very little demonstrates the emphasis of nutrition as the food you serve under one's care. If we already know how much diet impacts the very disease that brings people to the hospitals (and we do), why -- of all places -- would we want to enable this negative outcome there?
3/ I've seen countless people adopt healthy habits when simply provided the knowledge and opportunity to do so. What better place to build on this than one dedicated to your returning you to health? At the barest of minimums, the patient should have a choice.

1/ 😁Thread -- About Me -- 5 year update😁

It's been a busy 24 hours since @joerogan's podcast dropped where @CarnivoreMD discussed our work (mega thx, Paul!). There's been a surge of new followers, so I figured it was high time to do an update for those just tuning in...
2/ I'm a senior software engineer and systems architect having developed a variety of platforms over my career.

Five years ago next month I saw my cholesterol levels skyrocket on a ketogenic diet and was extremely interested as to the mechanisms behind it...
3/ I began learning everything I could about Lipidology and the system that moves #cholesterol around in our body. To my surprise, it has many structural things in common with a network (a very advanced one, mind you), but soon I was manipulating my own lipid levels easily.

1/ Thread -- Let's Get the Data

Many medical professionals (like my good friend and colleague, @DrNadolsky) feel strongly that #LowCarb-ers may be acting very recklessly by allowing their #LDL #Cholesterol to be much higher than the guidelines allow.

citizensciencefoundation.org/concerned-for-…
2/ And this may well be the case.

Certainly if "diet induced" high LDL is the equivalent to genetically high LDL, such as those with #FamilialHypercholesterolemia (FH), then there should be likewise rapidly progressing #atherosclerosis.
3/ "The sine qua non of FH is severe elevation of total and LDL cholesterol levels." jaoa.org/article.aspx?a…

Often heterozygous FH is considered where LDL is 190 to 500 mg/dL, with homozygous being above 500.

1/ So allow me to get engineer-y for a moment -- I was really happy with how the structure of this debate played out.

To recap:

- We worked out having 5 minutes uninterrupted from each for opening statements to the featured questions...

2/ - After that, we moved into the "unstructured, conversational" portion of the debate on that question.

Since I said I'd give a polite warning whenever either participant ran over 5m, it seemed both took around 5m each in a back-and-forth during this phase...
3/ To be sure, both participants might have the other interject for clarifications or to make a point briefly, but it was almost never abused.

And my general rule was to give the one being interrupted some extra time to complete their point. And overall, this worked very well.

1/ 🦠🦠 #COVID19 / #CORONAVIRUS SURVEY 🦠🦠

(Note-- this is the sixth time I'm posting this exact same survey, each 5 weeks apart. Links at the end of this thread, but don't compare until you've completed this first, ofc.)

Answer as honestly as possible.

Here we go... Image
2/ Generally speaking, do you feel *your government* is under-reacting, overreacting, or acting appropriately in response to this pandemic?
3/ Generally speaking, do you feel *the media* is under-reacting, overreacting, or acting appropriately in response to this pandemic?

1/ #ListeningThread @drlipid on @PeterAttiaMD #Drive

I always enjoy when Attia and Dayspring talk lipids. Looking forward to this one...

peterattiamd.com/tomdayspring6/
2/ At about eight minutes in Dayspring discusses how there is new emerging data on various things in the last couple years, particularly triglycerides and how they have taken center stage in relation to atherogenicity of an ApoB particle.
3/ About 10m in @PeterAttiaMD brings up the importance in distinguishing the difference between what ApB and LDL-P — of course, if you followed me for a while, you know this is a distinction of crucial importance for me (see cholesterolcode.com/thoughts-regar… )
