[Thread] #Covid19 #Quarantine hotel breaches & cross infection of guests & staff due to weak points in:
-choice of buildings
-transportation
-staffing & security
-inadequate precautions for airborne spread 1/
#ventilation to be re-examined by experts given possibility of #aerosol transmission in this case & in earlier case, where a family in hotel #quarantine & a person staying across corridor had contracted the same variant of the virus’ #Covid19 2/ abc.net.au/news/2021-02-0…
#ventilation expert unsurprised by #COVID19 infections linked to quarantine

“quick wins by limiting recirculation, increasing air flows & filters.. increasing air dilutes the risk of airborne infectious diseases being carried from room to room” 3/ stuff.co.nz/business/12407…
“Hotel #ventilation linked to coronavirus cluster”

“At no time did security guard go into people's room & at no time did any of guests come out"

"ventilation in hotel corridors is not particularly good” 4/
abc.net.au/news/2020-12-1…
“poor #ventilation & double-bunking helped spread Covid... with poor ventilation in corridors, factors all added up to being conducive to inhalation of #Covid19 aerosols” 5/

stuff.co.nz/national/healt…
“poor #ventilation & PPE a recipe for disaster"

“concerns air conditioning in hotels could be to blame for outbreak”

“Air circulation goes around floor & between rooms.. if hall or rooms are being cleaned, odour of cleaning products is strong in room” 6/ 9news.com.au/national/wa-pe…
“reviewed days of CCTV footage & infected person has been model employee, donning PPE, all protocols, all rules followed”

“leading occupational hygienist @kate_cole_ says no doubt that #aerosol transmission had role.. it’s not surprising this happened” 7/ www1.racgp.org.au/newsgp/clinica…
“Coronavirus spread at hotel most likely #airborne transmission, experts warn”

“worker sweeping dust at factory would be wearing fit-tested respirator mask for just dust, but we have healthcare workers dealing with #COVID19 issued with surgical masks” 8/ abc.net.au/news/2021-01-1…
Excellent thread from @NjbBari3 on investigation of hotel #COVID19 spread 9/
[tl;dr] hotels must be selected, operated & regulated very carefully or breaches happen, & at high cost:
Perth: 1 hotel case.. & entire city shut for 5 days
Auckland: 3 hotel cases.. & 212 staff, 192 current & 353 former guests had to be traced & tested theage.com.au/national/victo…
Another #quarantine hotel in Australia with a breach, current precautions are clearly not adequate

‘1200 people isolating as a result of a 26-year-old hotel worker who contracted the virus’
