I think Texas needs new leaders... First Ted Cruz and now...

Texas’s Attorney General Ken Paxton and wife TX Senator Angela Paxton both fled to Utah during #TexasBlackout to avoid the freezing cold and water outage while their voters suffered.

2) Texas’s elected leaders directly control @ERCOT_ISO — and the deregulation and lack of safety investments that led to Texas’s electricity ⚡️ crisis and humanitarian crisis.
3) The breathtaking callousness of Texas leaders is quite something to behold. It is bottomless.
4) The blackouts also threatened vaccines. Not just freezer issues but also millions of doses for other states were stuck in Texas according to my sources.
5) To be clear, wind turbine power deficit was only 12% of the total 20 GW power deficit in Texas. But even then, they could have easily winterized their wind turbines just like other countries that have wind power in the Arctic or atop the Alps.
6) But here is actually the root cause of what really happened. It was free market electricity ⚡️ that chased competition over price above all else. Electricity is a public good, not just another widget.
7) Meanwhile... a Bronx and Queens congresswoman helped raise $5 million for Texans and went to Texas during the crisis to assist. AOC now belongs to all of us.
8) And of course, Texas elected leaders were basically in bed with fossil fuel industry in terms of reliance on their big donations. Naturally that led to horrible oversight and management of energy regulations. (HT @tihuachang) tyt.com/stories/4vZLCH…

📍Elementary school outbreak of #B117 mutation in Vienna🇦🇹—16 infections—4 teachers, 12 students. Started with 1 positive teacher early last week—by end of last week, +6 students. Testing of all students & teachers on Wednesday found +9 more #COVID19.

2) Is this isolated? No! This follows another large outbreak elsewhere last week at another region of Lower Austria. Elementary schools restarted in person in early February.
3) and then there is the clear cut school driven cases in Quebec 🇨🇦. Teacher and student cases only increased when schools open. Teacher and student cases fell during school break, while general population kept surging during holidays. Night and day.

➡️ 17% relative increase in kids age 0-9 years.

➡️ Kids increase was much higher in 0-9 than any other age group.

3) We know #B117 is rising across Canada. If it’s B117, there is something funny with in the 0-9 age group.... the attack rate relative increase for B117 vs old strain were also the highest in the UK 🇬🇧 for age 0-9 than older ages. This is seen in both the shortcut B117 test...

2) The stern letter by very prominent scientists. They argue that because #SARSCoV2 is very airborne and infectious, the CDC must advise & provide the public, especially high risk front line workers (not just healthcare workers), should have premium masks like N95 KN95 FFP2 etc. Image

This bothers me so much—

📍There are still no official CDC guidelines for ventilation for schools—no rules on adequate air exchanges—despite so much science on >=5 ACH/hour.
