Project #Alvarium in a nutshell:
Disrupt the #edge security model!

The edge remains a hostile environment for computing.
So, protecting #data in use thru a #data confidence fabric and #ConfidenceComputing is the objective of this @linuxfoundation project.

@IOTA @DellTech
How does #Alvarium work?

It implements a kind of #trust #sidecars for #data streams with trust metadata and confidence scores thus creating the data confidence fabric.

@IOTA @DellTech
Where does @IOTA and the #Tangle come into play in #Alvarium?

The #TrustSidecars (e.g., attached to #IoT devices) directly store the trust metadata in the #Tangle. Metadata consumers simply subscribe to updates on the Tangle.

@DellTech
... it's trivial, in this set up, to undestand why feelessness, having value-less TX's, and fast consensus (of the #Tangle) are mandatory for this type of use case.

#Alvarium @DellTech @iota
.@Mat_Yarger even did a live demo (with a simulator; no real devices attached).

Are we already on the road to "Compliance-as-a-service"?

(We need a little bit of industry-specific confidence scores, though).
@IOTA @DellTech #Alvarium
#Alvarium is not, though, restricted to #IoT or #device or #sensor #data -- as this architecture diagram shows.

(I do like an #APIgateway and an #Edge device from an @SoftwareAG perspective here :)

@IOTA @DellTech
Another key observation to be successful in this heterogeneous (data) ecosystem is the role of standards.

#Alvarium is also about #data streams.
#IOTA has submitted #IOTA #Streams to an RFP by the @ObjectMgmtGroup for standardization.

And all of this brings trust to the edge.
Which industry could benefit from the #DCF (see above for what this is ;-)
🟦#IIoT especially for sensible data
🟦medical
🟦any privacy-related use case
🟦any industry where you need to measure #trust

#Alvarium @DellTech @IOTA
What about making #voting #machines more secure thru #Alvarium?

Possible, but lots of regulatory clout and some necessary tech stuff as well:

#Data #sharding (upcoming in @IOTA) and then using #DCF would, most probably, be required (besides @intel's #SGX)
What about competing alternative approaches to #Alvarium?

Single vendor stacks from #sensor to the #cloud.
Problem here: data (and app) portability (so you end up with vendor #lockin and monopoly surcharges.

@DellTech @IOTA
Next steps for #Alvarium?
Real-world pilots and PoCs.

The baseline is all there (secure boot, #DCF, #Tangle).

Outfitting sensors to provide access to the #Tangle should be available (cf. @ST_World).

@IOTA @DellTech
Will #Alvarium run on a private #Tangle or on the #mainnet?

It would work in that way.
However, once #sharding is available in @IOTA, you would just take and use the appropriate shard. No need for a private #Tangle any longer.

@DellTech @IOTA
#Alvarium and #GDPR?
#DCF's can be a very powerful tool of demonstrating compliance.

(I'd add: GDPR is much more & can't solved by just put tech where data originates. But there would be many touchpoints for a #DCF. Think of the tsunami of cloud applications!)
