For more than 200 years, Washingtonians have had zero voting representation in Congress. D.C.'s mostly Black and brown residents have long been subjected to systemic inequality and denied the full rights of citizenship.

It’s not a coincidence that Wyoming (92.5% white) and Vermont (94.2% white) have voting representation in Congress but Washington, D.C. (46% Black) — which is home to more people than either of these two states — does not.
D.C. residents have no say in the determination of who would:

-Be appointed as ambassadors to foreign countries
-Sit on federal court benches
-Serve a lifetime appointment on the Supreme Court
