“Bloodbath is imminent” if we don’t act—A UN special envoy warned the 15-nation Security Council on Wednesday that "a bloodbath is imminent" in Myanmar if it does not act to curb the violent military crackdown against protesters. #Myanmar (HT @PamelaFalk)

2) "Looking back ten years from now, how will history judge this inaction?" Special Envoy of the Secretary-General Christine Schraner Burgener asked the diplomats. "I hope you can act while there is still time to avoid the worst outcome by overcoming caution and disagreement."
3) violence in Myanmar, sparked by February 1 coup of the nation's democratically elected leader, intensified over the weekend, when activists say more than 100 people were killed by the military junta's security forces in what appeared to be the bloodiest day yet of the conflict
4) “Schraner Burgener said in her remarks that more than 520 people have been killed since the violence began, condemning the "widespread and systemic attacks on the civilian population" by military forces.

Do vaccines lower transmission? YES, absolutely.

How much? By a lot—75% to 94% in recent studies.

Do vaccines completely eliminate any and all transmission? NO.

That is why we still need to mask after vaccinating until cases are very low or zero. #COVID19

2) This was why I was fuming almost 3 days ago when I heard it. I asked @CDCDirector to retract, and last night she did.
3) Here’s details of @CDCDirector’s retraction. I’m glad she follows the science.

2) I swear someone was worried about this #P1 issue in British Columbia recently last week somewhere... but sure, that was too “alarmist”. Nothing to worry about they said.

3) Many P1 cases in BC 🇨🇦 were traced to Whistler ski resort area. The problem with that? Whistler is a famous tourism hotspot for holiday travel.

“We’ve also seen transmission from travel to and from other communities across B.C. from the Whistler area.”

BREAKING—@CDCDirector has now walked back and recanted her controversial statement that vaccinated cannot ever get infected / transmit the virus.

I predicted exactly this was going to happen 2 days ago, the day it aired.

It’s the best move. Thanks Dr Walensky! #COVID19
2) Here is what happened 2 days ago... the statement is inaccurate. People can transmit.
3) although she didn’t say never/ever, It upset me also because the phrasing implied that. And it also gave right wingers like Rand Paul ammo for his nonsense when he argued with Fauci.

Let me get this straight... arguably one of the most successful anti-Trump groups of 2020, @MeidasTouch, is now being attacked in a Rolling Stone hit piece...

Who owns the @RollingStone? Well, isn’t that a coincidence.

It would be a shame to share this photo.
2) Catch up with the stupid Rolling Stone attack against @MeidasTouch here.

GUT PUNCH—Michigan & North Dakota #COVID19 cases surged 52% in 1 week.

“It is absolutely alarming,” Emily Toth Martin, an epidemiologist. “Felt like a gut punch. We’re going to have to go through hard work again to get the numbers down.” @juliebosman 🧵

2) Infection levels have exploded in recent weeks, in big cities and rural stretches alike.

Ann Hepfer, a health officer for two counties, is racked by worries: about spring break trips that are underway, and about the Easter gatherings that will take place this weekend
3) “It makes me shudder,” she said. “I never thought we would see this at this time. I thought we would be over the hump.”

Good news—6 months results—Pfizer vaccine remains more than 91% effective against disease with any symptoms for six months. And it appeared to be so far good against the worrying #B1351 variant from South Africa in limited data so far. Thread 🧵 #COVID19

2) "The vaccine was 100% effective against severe disease as defined by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and 95.3% effective against severe COVID-19 as defined by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)," Pfizer and BioNTech said”
3) "These data confirm the favorable efficacy and safety profile of our vaccine and position us to submit a Biologics License Application to the U.S. FDA," Albert Bourla, Pfizer's CEO, said in a statement. A BLA is an application for full approval—currently it has EUA.
