Virtual link :
Justice L Nageswara Rao, who is also the chairman of the Artificial Intelligence Committee, gives the welcome address.

Justice Rao: Hon'ble Chief Justice of India, he was the first chairman of the Artificial Intelligence Committee whom I have succeeded.

#SupremeCourt
Justice Rao: He (CJI) has great hopes and aspirations for artificial intelligence being helpful in the administration of justice.

#ArtificialIntelligence #SupremeCourt
Justice Rao: Justice NV Ramana, Chief Justice of India designate, on behalf of the Artificial Intelligence Committee, I congratulate him and wish him all the best. I am sure he will guide the #ArtificialIntelligence committee and give the necessary support ...

#SupremeCourt
Justice Rao: The recent advances in technology has been revolutionising every facet of human life. Technology has increasingly disrupted the nature of professions and the manner of practice thereof.
Justice Rao: #ArtificialIntelligence has the potential to be a tremendous asset in the justice delivery system.

#SupremeCourt
Justice Rao: In the ... future, #ArtificialIntelligence will likely present a more streamlined, cost-effective and time-bound means of bringing to fruition the fundamental right of access to Justice.

#SupremeCourt
Justice Rao: It is quite implausible that #ArtificialIntelligence would ever make human lawyers or judges completely redundant.
Justice Rao: However, such a system can assist the judges, court staff and litigants in several ways by addressing existing bottlenecks resulting in excessive delays.

#ArtificialIntelligence #SupremeCourt
Justice Rao: The use of information technology in the Indian judicial domain kickstarted with the adoption of the national plan for implementation of ICT in the Indian Judiciary.
Justice Rao: The E-Court's mission mode project, with its inception from 2007, sought to facilitate the operation of websites of various district courts, digitisation of details of cases filed and registered, and computerisation of courts at lower levels
Justice Rao: While the implementation of the e-Courts project is still underway, a need was felt for onboarding new age, cutting edge technology of machine learning and #ArtificialIntelligence in the judicial domain for enhancing efficiency, productivity of justice delivery
Justice Rao: This led to the Supreme Court constituting the Artificial Intelligence committee in 2019 to explore the use of #ArtificialIntelligence as a pivotal guide for the judiciary.
The Artificial Intelligence committee has identified core areas where enhanced capabilities may be unlocked by harnessing technology, Justice Rao says
Justice Rao says that these areas include the use of #ArtificialIntelligence:-

- in language technology in the translation of judicial documents,
- in process automation on the administrative side,
- legal research, assistance on the judicial side etc.
In his speech, the President of India...in 2019 expressed his views about the judgments reaching the common man. He also exhorted the Supreme Court of finding ways and means of getting all legal documents translated to vernacular languages: Justice Rao
Justice Rao: We have already been successful in our attempt to translate documents and judgements into 11 languages.

#SupremeCourt
Justice Rao says that the use of #ArtificialIntelligence for legal research and assistance on the judicial side was the brainchild of CJI Bobde
Justice Rao: He (CJI) started discussing this with Mr Manthan Trivedi and this took shape - it took about 2 years to take shape and we are here now with the launch today.

#ArtificialIntelligence #SupremeCourt
Justice Rao says that the #ArtificialIntelligence committee has found a way to catalogue information in cases for more efficacious handling of data in various cases - whether for the factual understanding of cases or dynamic use of precedents.
The #ArtificialIntelligence committee had reached out to Manthan Trivedi, who Justice Rao says has been closely working with the committee in developing the final tool or product being launched today.

#SupremeCourt
Justice Rao adds that Trivedi was assisted by Ratan Deshpande. Justice Rao thanks both Manthan Trivedi and Ratan Deshpande for developing the project and giving it to the Supreme Court without any charge.

#SupremeCourt #ArtificialIntelligence
Justice Rao on the salient features of the software, says that it involves file analytics, a notebook feature allowing the user to perform tasks in a fragmented manner, indexing, bookmarking, getting suggestions on any file, extracting important facts etc.
Justice Rao: Development of SUPACE for criminal matters is in progress and the results are very encouraging.

#ArtificialIntelligence #SupremeCourt
Justice Rao says that the #ArtificialIntelligence committee has resolved to put SUPACE tool to use on an experimental basis initially with the judges dealing with criminal matters in Bombay and Delhi High Courts.

Election Commission will notify the Rajya Sabha elections for 3 vacancies from Kerala (that will arise later this month on the retirement of the MPs) prior to the expiry of the term of these 3 MPs i.e. before April 21, 2021, #KeralaHighCourt told.

@ECISVEEP
Adv Deepu Lal Mohan (for EC) says that the reason why HC was moved was because the earlier notification was kept in abeyance.

A revised election schedule will be issued. At this moment, it cannot be speculated when it will be scheduled, but it will be before April 21, he adds
Senior Advocate CS Vaidyanathan, for the petitioner, argues that the Election Commission must disclose why the initial date for the Rajya Sabha elections was reconsidered in the first place and what reference of the Law Ministry was involved.
