Michigan hospitals @ 100% capacity amid #COVID19 surge:
Ascension St. Joseph, Tawas City
Beaumont Wayne
McLaren Port Huron
McLaren-Oakland, Pontiac

At 99% capacity:
St. Joseph Mercy, Ypsilanti
Bronson Methodist, Kalamazoo
Henry Ford Macomb, Clinton Twp.
Hurley Medical Ctr, Flint
2 more hospitals to watch in the coming days...

McLaren Flint & Sparrow Hospital in Lansing are both at 97% occupied.

As of Monday, Sparrow had 112 COVID patients, almost as many as Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit (115)

Beaumont Royal Oak has most COVID patients (173, 79% full)
Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit (78% full) has the most COVID patients in ICUs (36) of any hospital in Michigan, according to Monday's patient census.

That tracks with the COVID illness surge Detroit is facing: crainsdetroit.com/coronavirus/de…

Henry Ford Macomb is No. 2 at 27.
Nearly 3,100 Michigan residents are hospitalized with confirmed cases of #COVID19, the highest level since Dec. 17(up nearly 500 occupied beds since Friday).

We topped out at 3,884 on Dec. 1 during the fall surge.

Last spring's peak was 3,986 inpatients with COVID.
For Southeast Michigan hospitals, the spring surge in #COVID19 cases is about 70 patients away from topping the fall surge in terms of hospital beds occupied.

60% of COVID-positive inpatients are in Southeast Michigan hospitals.

The stress & chaos of teaching during a once-in-a-century pandemic has some Michigan teachers weighing a departure from public education.

This month in #CrainsForum, I partnered with @chalkbeatDET for a report on teacher turnover destabilizing schools.
#CrainsForum content is free and not behind the @crainsdetroit paywall.

How teacher churn destabilizes schools, costs taxpayers & hurts Michigan's most vulnerable students

@Chalkbeat's @levin_koby & @lamarr_lemee analyzed over 1 MILLION lines of teacher workforce data to track turnover in Mich. schools.

.@MIGOP chairman @RonaldWeiser repeatedly referred to @GovWhitmer, AG @dananessel & Secretary of State @JocelynBenson as "the three witches" and made a "burning at the stake" remark in front of a Oakland Co. Republican crowd last night.

VIDEO: facebook.com/paul.taros/vid…

Weiser also acknowledges in the video that he skipped the University of Michigan Board of Regents meeting yesterday afternoon to go recruit a Republican candidate to run for the Michigan State University Board of Trustees.
After @RonaldWeiser said @MIGOP's "job is to soften up those three witches and make sure that we have good candidates to run against them, that they are ready for the burning at the stake," he literally added, “And maybe the press heard that too.”

New column from me:

Michigan business leaders want political civility? Show Mike Shirkey the door.

crainsdetroit.com/voices-chad-li… via @crainsdetroit
"Just one thing...," @SenMikeShirkey says in a hot mic moment before telling @LtGovGilchrist he won't back down about "any of the points I was trying to make" about @GovWhitmer.

The lieutenant governor just listened.

“So I read ... that the Republican majority leader in the state of Michigan went before a group of loyalists … and said, ‘What we think we saw on Jan. 6 is not the case. These were not Trump supporters. This was a hoax. It was all pre-arranged.’”
