As part of my #selfcare routine I've started going to #therapy ❤️

It’s important to be vocal about #mentalhealth & normalise treatment 💬

If you’re considering starting, go for it—you deserve care.

Here are 4 things I’ve learned about myself from doing therapy 👇
I’m more anxious than I realise 😓

I only realise once I speak my thoughts out loud and get them out of my head 🤯

I’m always surprised by what I’ve actually been holding on to!

It feels good to acknowledge this....
I’m not as “fine” as I first thought!

Small things I pass off as ‘minor’ every day clearly build up to have an impact on my mental health 🧠

Making them more ‘known’ to myself has been helpful & enlightening 💡

Almost there...👇
I’m not spending enough time with my emotions.

Having a baby👶
Looking after my wife💍
Having to sell my flat🏠
Having a vulnerable mum living alone😞
Scaling a startup in a pandemic😱

Not that surprising, but it’s causing fears, that I would otherwise be ignoring.
I’m not ‘happy’ all the time, and that’s OK 👌

I think I’m happy pretty much all the time.

That’s because I’m deeply grateful for what I have. But gratitude and happiness aren’t the same😕

My aim is to be happy most of the time!

Good news: more work to be done❤️
This is what I’ve learnt from therapy.

Have you done therapy?

What have you learned?

Building #startups in public:

It took us 16 months to get to £1M ARR at @yourheights.

Here's some of the moments, milestones, things we tried and fails along the way....

(A thread)

....It all started with a newsletter (are you even a #startup if it doesn't start with one!?)
1. November 2019:

Started writing a newsletter (called Dawn) on what science says about taking care of your brain with the tagline

"Don't waste time with science. Let us do that for you".

Lols indeed.

trydawn.co - original site still live.

Mum liked it.
2. Built an audience engaging with our journey for over a year pre launch.

Product development with @TaraSwart and @SophieDietitian happened in the background developing our launch product.

Newsletter growth PAINFULLY SLOW but got to 3,000 weekly readers after 12 months...

How to grow a new #podcast 👇
A thread.

But first, results from Braincare by @yourheights 👀

🏆 90k monthly downloads
🔉 10 episodes a month
🎯 93% average completion rate on episodes

All organic.

In just 4 months, made in my living room.

This is how we did it 👇
2. It started with a clear strategy.

Our space (wellness) is over saturated with content, especially from influencers with large audiences.

We can't compete there and we're a brand that sells supplements for brain health so how to win?

Do what no one else does...

Less.

👇
"sorry I couldn't write a shorter letter, I didn't have the time" - Mark Twain.

This is one of my favourite quotes, & sums up our insight.

Podcast consumption rates are actually pretty low, most people start but don't finish.

So our "thing" is 15 min episodes.

The results? 👇
