What do you think the local families who lost their loved ones by #COVID19 would see in you with the #Olympic medals? Do you think they will be overjoyed and ‘happy’ for you?
Not really.
In Japan, we’ve run out of beds for #Covid19 patients & more than 10,000 people are waiting at home to die without treatment. Ordinary Japanese citizen does not have access to PCR tests because the goverment wants to eliminate the risk of finding more cases.
To this very day, only 25% of our entire medical workforce has been vaccinated and only with the FIRST dose. The high-risk elderlies are still on the waiting list and ordinary citizens would not have access to vaccines until early June at the earliest.
Meanwhile, the Japanese goverment is preparing enough empty beds and hotel rooms so that you athletes can have PCR tests EVERYDAY. Nurses who’ve been asked to VOLUNTEER in the Olympics are shouting: “WE ARE NOT EXPENDABLE PAWNS❗️”
The medical community is short of medical resources because many are either quitting or are sick due to #COVID19 and/or overwork. They don’t have the capacity to send out 500 nurses on beck and call from the government. Their unions are even calling to cancel #Tokyo2020.
So I ask you again.
Would you want to win your medals in THIS Olympics during #COVID19 pandemic with special treatment for YOU while its citizens are suffering from lack of treatment & services?

Nurses sign up for the job because it is ‘one of the highest delights of life.’ During COVID, they are overworked and often unable to live up to their sacred pledge. But they are humans too. #EveryNurseDeservesDelightsOfLife.
The questions is, how we redeem that FOR them.
A lot may be at stake for you. This may even be the last Olympics you can participate. You may have dreamed of this moment, and so have many of the spectators. But this is about life or death. For the nurses, all essential workers, and for the people.
What would you do?
