Lessons so far from #HamasAttack: 1/ 1. Hamas has been arming, planning for a major war for yrs. 2. Israel misjudged Hamas' intentions, believing that it would always be same-old w/out need for major Israeli campaign. 3. Hamas massed rockets for major barrages vs single target.
Lessons 2/ 4. #Hamas sought to overload Iron Dome with major barrage vs Ashkelon, & it succeeded. 5. Israel will not fall into trap of looking for ceasefire or a 40-day war. 6. Hamas (like Hizb in Leb) has 100+ dug-in rocket batteries. Israeli airforce hunting them.
Lessons 3/ 7. Israel cannot permit a return to Hamas rocket drizzle. It will require "root canal treatment" to go after launchers, HQ, warehouses, etc. Will that mean an IDF ground operation?
8. Israel will attempt to cut off heads of snakes & destroy Hamas' infrastructure.
Lessons 4/
8. Big Israel intel misperception that Hamas did not seek escalation. Now clear Hamas sought war. 9. If BG Airport is in range and now closed, the Hamas threat must be pushed back. 10. Hamas has weapons in reserve: drones, tunnels, naval commandoes, even paragliders.
Lessons 5/ 11. Hamas gets support from Iran, if not $, arms, then morale. ForMin Zarif phones Hamas' leaders. 12. The IDF will bomb more Gaza multi-story apt buildings, known for housing Hamas families & offices.
13. Will Iran encourage Hizb to pin down IDF? A rocket from Golan?

1/#HamasAttack Reports of Hamas flying drones against Israel. I've been waiting for this. Hamas has been training to use suicide drones & for spying.
Here's 1st of a thread.
1 #Iran-designed Ababil.
2 Quad-drones used for spying. Used by "photographer" during fence rioting
2/ How does #Hamas get its quad-drones? These models were smuggled in through crossing pts from Israel as "toys."
Besides spying, drones like this were used by ISIS to drop grenades on coalition forces.
Hamas had a drone lab in Tunisia w a drone wizard (who met an untimely end).
3/ That's no innocent toy deployed in Iraq!
Don't forget, even balloons have been weaponized by #Hamas.
1/ The #HamasAttack on #Israel is reinforced this morning by the noxious 2-pronged NYT attack by @PeterBeinart (Palestinians Deserve to Return Home) & @NickKristof (Your Taxes in Israel).
Both see the Sheikh Jarrah land dispute as part of the original sin.
Proof they're wrong.
2/ This pic was taken in front of #SheikhJarrah in Apr 1918 on Jewish Lag B'Omer holiday. The kids are returning to homes in #Jerusalem's Old City from shrine of Tomb of Shimon Hatzaddik. The large empty area behind them is Sheikh Jarrah.
Jews owned land there, near the tomb.
3/ This pic was taken ~1955 entitled "Threshing floor in Jerusalem, #SheikhJarrah Quarter" (under Jordanian administration). Threshing floor = empty.
BTW: The road that veers to the right goes to Mt Scopus. It's where the Arabs massacred 78 Jews in the Hadassah Hospital Convoy.
2/ The #Hamas-#Iran ties are very strong, but not publicized by the Western press. Hamas head, Ismail Haniyeh, delivered the eulogy at Soleimani’s funeral. Sitting with him was head of Islamic Jihad, Ismail Haniyeh, who was well-known to #Soleimani.
The two had special seating...
3/ Hamas' Haniyeh and PIJ's Nakhala sat RIGHT BEHIND the Supreme Leader @khamenei_ir and Pres @HassanRouhani at the #Soleimani funeral. Only the bodyguards separated them.
BTW in front of Haniyeh is the next likely SLeader, Chief Justice Ebrahim Raisi, crying at the funeral.
1/ Thrall -- A little bit of research would have shown you the fire was a tree on the al Aqsa plaza set afire by a Palestinian demonstrator with fireworks used to attack Israeli police.
A little more research about the Western Wall plaza would have brought you to my analysis.
2/ Together with the adjacent Jewish Quarter, which had been demolished by the Jordanians, the neighborhood" was nothing more than decaying slums built on rubble. Reuters itself describes the Mughrabi Quarter as “ramshackle.” jcpa.org/article/creati…
3/ From1948-1967, Jewish access to the Wall was totally banned; but the pre-1948 situation was hardly tolerable for Jewish worshippers. After navigating through a labyrinth of dangerous, narrow alleyways, Jews praying at the Wall found a cramped area of approx 120 sq meters.
Message to Washington. Your even-handed messages to all sides are NOT welcomed in #Israel and will be received by many as malevolent.
All in or nothing.

2/ #BREAKING#HAMAS may have believed #Israel is is weak because of government disfunction, or #Israel can no longer depend on US b/c of the new Administration.
They are deadly mistaken. Israel's resolution - and anger - have never been higher.
And US even-handedness be damned
3/ BREAKING #HAMAS may discover tonight that its leaders Deif, Sinwar, and others are buried under family homes.
Hamas has been stockpiling & improving weapons, storing them in residential areas.
Maybe the IDF must change terminology: Hamas hides civilians amid military targets
1/ Tonight, Jews in Israel commemorate Lag B'Omer (the 33rd day of 49 days b/w Passover and Shavuot).
The Talmud says on Lag B-Omer a plague stopped killing 12,000 pairs of Rabbi Akiva's students.
Celebrations in Meron & Jerusalem at graves of sages. Pics from ~ 120 yrs ago.
2/ Lag B'Omer. One sage is Shimon Hatzadik, buried in Jerusalem. Easier to reach than the Meron celebration in the Galilee.
To this day, schools take their kids for hikes into nature, like the rabbis who hid to learn Torah.
I found & colored this pic & ID's it as Lag B'Omer, 1918
3/ Now mix some Talmud & history: 24,000 of Rabbi Akiva's students died in a plague because they didn't "show each other respect." No one else hit by plague?
He was known for "love your neighbor as yourself." His disciples didn't show respect for their fellow students?
