THREAD This Sunday, we formally seized the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Fatou Bensouda, about the bombing of local and international media installations and equipment in #Gaza since May 11, which we consider to be war crimes. rsf.org/en/news/rsf-as…
What the Israeli army asserts, namely that the alleged presence of Hamas in the buildings would make them legitimate military objectives is absolutely false from a legal point of view, since they also house civilians, such as the media. #GazaUnderAttack
Even assuming that the Israeli fire was necessary (which is absolutely not proven), the total destruction of the buildings demonstrates that the principles of distinction and proportionality have been flagrantly violated.
RSF asked the prosecutor to also include recent events in the investigation into the situation in Palestine that she opened on March 3, 2021.
RSF had already seized the court in 2018 at the time of the so-called March of the return, in which the Israeli army targeted dozens of Palestinian journalists, killing 2 and injuring 18. rsf.org/en/news/rsf-as…
As we wrote to the prosecutor, "the recurrence of such events gives credence to a persistent intention to reach the journalistic community and to reduce if not neutralize its ability to inform the public."

If the Chinese press were free, the coronavirus might not be a pandemic. @RSF_inter shows that, without censorship, Chinese media would have informed the public much earlier, sparing thousands of lives and perhaps avoiding the current pandemic. rsf.org/en/news/if-chi…
If the authorities had not hidden from the media the existence of an epidemic outbreak linked to a very popular market, the public would have stopped visiting Wuhan long before its official closure on January 1st. #PressFreedom #COVID19 #COVIDー19
If journalists' sources in China did not face severe penalties ranging from professional reprimand to heavy prison terms, Doctor Lu Xiaohong would have taken responsibility for alerting the media, forcing the authorities to take action, which only happened three weeks later.

THREAD I attended the first hearing of the #AssangeTrial today. There is an incredible paradox and even a non-sense. The prosecutor accused #Assange of having endangered "political dissidents and journalists". On the contrary, Julian contributed to reveal war crimes and lies.
@rebecca_vincent @cmihr @pierrehaski @PaulMoreiraPLTV @ggreenwald @yanisvaroufakis @Snowden In #AssangeTrial, can the prosecutor tell us why the Obama administration did decide not to prosecute, and now the Trump’s one does? It seems that there are alternative facts and even an alternative justice under @realDonaldTrump.
@rebecca_vincent @cmihr @pierrehaski @PaulMoreiraPLTV @ggreenwald @yanisvaroufakis @Snowden @realDonaldTrump We knew that the prosecutor would use these arguments against Julian #Assange: the problem is that there is no evidence, not one, that Julian endangered people. The ones who accuse him not only endangered, but clearly killed lots of civilians and even committed war crimes.
