We're under way at #Quality2021!

First up, @HelenBevanTweet and @goranhenriks on How to create Simple Rules for your health system.

We’re promised a “highly interactive” session, looking at devolved control of innovation and improvement.

Watch live: internationalforum.bmj.com/europe/live/
Let's meet our speakers. @HelenBevanTweet has been supporting quality improvement within the health and care system for nearly 30 years. She has led and facilitated many nationwide initiatives to improve care.
Our co-presenter, @goranhenriks has nearly forty years’ experience of management in the Swedish Health Care system. His countyr is amongst the best in Sweden with regards to patient satisfaction, access, clinical performance, safety and costs.
Simple Rules is an approach to bringing about meaningful system change from the bottom up.

"The future is now" says @goranhenriks
Firstly, ask how do we measure our system? We need to understand:

1) health of the population
2) Use of resources
3) Patient experiences

It starts with good meeting places, with involved, motivated people. An interesting challenge in the current climate! @goranhenriks #quality2021
We're starting from a place where much work happens in silos. @goranhenriks wants us to think across the system in a way that better matches patients needs from primary through to specialist care.

Now @HelenBevanTweet is showing us that we can change in two ways:

1) Top-down policy, cascade approach
2) Alignment through Simple Rules

Simple rules are co-produced.
"A core principle for transformaing mindsets"

Some great examples of Simple Rules in action, presented by @HelenBevanTweet

How we create the rules is as important as what they say.

NHS England co-created seven Simple Rules by involving thousands of staff.

For #leadership in health care, @goranhenriks has seven Simple Rules
1) Shared purpose
2) Belonging
3) Predict and prevent
4) Support people to build agency
5) Embrace contradictions and tensions
6) Unleash learning
7) Large scale framework

Now @HelenBevanTweet is focusing on how we define our shared purpose.

The most effective way of doing this is connecting with people's emotions through values.

Deconstructing "Our | Shared | Purpose" yields a simple framework for discussion

Superb illustration of this by @HelenBevanTweet in the #endpjparalysis campaign!

Now we're onto building a sense of Belonging. This is an essential prerequisite. Our people should be in the top right box here:

And finally, what are the Simple Rules for creating Simple Rules?

Here you go! #Quality2021

Final words:

Let's build the future together!

Many thanks to @HelenBevanTweet and @goranhenriks at #Quality2021

Inspirational and practical at the same time.

Hello all and a warm welcome to the next session of #Quality2021 - building a stronger foundation with a new definition of quality. We'll be hearing from Christina Krause and Ben Ridout
Christina asks, 'why define quality?' - more recently, we started to reflect around the history of British Colombia and what the evidence is saying #Quality2021
Christina explains the importance of considering indigenous peoples in British Colombia, and that we have a lot to learn from them about the history of the land. How can the history and teachings be used to inform how we define quality? #Quality2021
