CJI Ramana begins address
CJI Ramana: Today marks an important day. Democracy all about people. People of India bestowed the right to know.
Representative democracy can survive when people are informed: CJI
Hearing always taken place in courtrooms. The only restrictions imposed were because of security and space. Now pandemic also prompted new restrictions: CJI
Multiple wrong notions prevail in the minds of people even after 70 years of independence. High time that justice system is de-mystified: CJI
It is this lack of direct access that gives space for misconception. Live streaming is the best remedy. Crucial for dissemination of information: CJI
CJI: At time live streaming can become double-edged sword. But judge cannot be swayed by popular opinion. Judge might be in public gaze.
CJI: Lawyers should uphold and maintain dignity of the profession. Identities of parties also must be kept in mind. Imperative to carefully calibrate rules governing live streaming.
