A friend reminded me of this story (thread):
A terrible storm came into a town and local officials sent out an emergency warning that the riverbanks would soon overflow and flood the nearby homes. They ordered everyone in the town to evacuate immediately. 1/
2/ A faithful man heard the warning and decided to stay, saying to himself, “I will trust God and if I am in danger, then God will send a divine miracle to save me.”
The neighbors came by his house and said to him, “We’re leaving and there is room for you in our car!”
3/ But the man declined. “I have faith that God will save me.”
As the man stood on his porch watching the water rise up the steps, a man in a canoe paddled by, “Hurry and come into my canoe, the waters are rising quickly!” But the man again said, “No thanks, God will save me!”
4/ The floodwaters rose and the man had to retreat to the second floor. A police motorboat came by and saw him at the window. “We will come up and rescue you!” they shouted. But the man refused saying, “Use your time to save someone else! I have faith that God will save me!”
5/ The waters rose higher and the man had to climb up to his rooftop. A helicopter dropped a rope ladder. A rescue officer pleaded with the man, “Grab my hand and I will pull you up!” But the man STILL refused, folding his arms tightly to his body. “No thanks! God will save me!”
6/ The floodwaters swept the man away and he drowned.
In Heaven, the man asked God, “I put all of my faith in You. Why didn’t You come and save me?”
God replied, “Son, I sent you a warning. I sent you a car, a canoe, a boat and a helicopter. What more were you looking for?”
7/ Isn’t it possible that God made intelligent people who became scientists and developed vaccines to save us?
I think so.

On this final #VaxFactsFebruary of 2020, let’s recap:
✅No US #vaccines given to kids are made in China
✅Vaccines do not cause ppl to change gender
✅Vaccines are not toxic
✅>9/10 parents choose to vaccinate
✅US #vaccines are made in Canada, Belgium, Australia, France and the US
✅Vaccines prevent diseases that can be deadly to babies and children
✅BEST was to protect children is to vaccinate according to the CDC schedule— others are not evidence-based
#VaccinesWork! MMR, for example, is 97% effective in preventing #measles
#FluShot prevents ~50% of #flu and reduces hospitalization and death from flu by 65%
#HIB vaccine effectively ended HIB meningitis within just a few years
✅2 of 3 polio strains are GONE! Amazing!

WHO cites vaccine hesitancy as a top 10 threat to global health. It’s not the “hesitant”, though. THEY ask questions and consider the answers. It’s the rabidly anti-vax who are the threat. They make salacious claims that aren’t supported by credible research.
Anti-vaxxers parrot what they hear in their eco chamber. They suggest every malady is caused by #vaccines.
They claim >50% of kids suffer from “chronic dz”. You’d have to consider obesity a chronic dz in order to make that claim. Vaccines do not cause obesity.
Anti-vaxxers claim pediatricians, who are the lowest pd of any specialty, give #vaccines to line their pockets. Anyone saying so has never worked as a pediatrician. We have devoted our lives to serving children. We have sacrificed greatly to do so. Do not wipe your boots on us

A Saturday rant, of sorts...
As a pediatrician who, like all pediatricians, spent 11 years (minimum) in higher education and training, it is absolutely astonishing to me that ppl w no medical training whatsoever think they have equivalent knowledge because they have internet
2/ access and a social network. I once had a conversation w a parent who questioned the safety of #vaccines and chose not to vaccinate his child (well... until the child was 2 and they wanted daycare and then it was inconvenient to be unvaccinated...)
He was a software developer
3/ Smart guy for sure. Mad google skills. He had “done his research” and no amount of discussion was going to change his mind. We were civil throughout. They continued to bring the child to me and took my advice for everything else— just not #vaccines. Now, if I had asked him

The list of anti-vax claims gets longer by the day, but none are supported by research (which is quite different from “search”).
Take a moment to think about their talking points, many of which refute each other.
First is was “MMR causes autism”.
“MMR causes autism!” claim came from the ORIGINAL “paid pharma shill” who took money to falsify data on 12 kids. Dozens of real studies involving millions of kids proved that claim was false.
Then came “it’s thimerosal!”, which was never in MMR and was removed in 2001.
Only multi-dose flu vaccine has Thimerosal as a preservative, which has also been shown to be harmless in the quantity in a vaccine.
Then it was “it’s mercury!” which people thought was a new argument but was really still the Thimerosal argument with a different name. 3/

Let’s say I have #measles and don’t have symptoms yet. If I decide to go shopping while infectious, I will spread that to 9 out of 10 babies, cancer patients, pregnant women, and unvaccinated ppl within breathing room of me. How do you notify those people?
If I have #measles and expose the public do you review security tapes to try to ID people? Do you put out a press release? Who answers their panicked calls for info? Who investigates them all? Could you miss work for 21 days because you need to be quarantined?
If I have #measles and expose the public and infect a pregnant woman who is going to deliver a baby but might be infectious how do you handle that? Deliver in isolation? Is the baby at risk? What if there’s an emergency? What If you just finished fighting cancer?
