Since I’m sick of seeing #Covid patients tonight, here are #COVIDVaccine myths busted (thread)
1/ “the (mRNA) vaccine was rushed” - no, it wasn’t. It went through standard stage 2 FDA process, which is typically 3-6 months. n= 43,258. There were 10 “severe” reactions—9 were in placebo group
2/ For comparison, Viagra had 3,000 participants in phase 2, & it lasted 4 weeks. So vaccine is safer & better studied than Viagra, fellas
3/ “mRNA is new or unproven technology” Actually, it’s been studied for 20 years, & there’s currently multiple trials as old as 10 years that show they’re safe
4/ “no one knows long term side effects” In 300 years of vaccine research, the most delayed reaction has been 2.5 months. PFE/MRNA vaccines have been studied over a year.
5/ Long term effects of #Covid disease, however, are unknown. They include cognitive delay, depression, chronic asthma, liver damage, erectile dysfunction
6/ “vaccines cause infertility”. this has been debunked ad nauseam, & is complete 💩 …check out HenryFord’s site
henryford.com/blog/2021/04/f…
7/ #vaccines don’t work vs delta variant” They most definitely do—88% effective after 2 doses. The longer we go w/o herd immunity, the lower this number will get due to mutations nejm.org/doi/full/10.10…
8/ “if you’re vaccinated, you’re protected, why do I need one?” B/c it’s ~90% effective…the more people get Covid, the less protection you have (it’s like having more tix in a lottery w/ 10% chance—more tix increases absolute chance of winning, or in this case, getting covid.
9/ “I’m healthy & low risk”. Maybe, but in addition to long term covid side effects, you still run 2-10% risk of hospital admission (very expensive in US—we’re talking $10k out of pocket at minimum). And it still carries a .5-2% risk of death. Vaccine side effects 1/10-100k
10/ in conclusion, there’s no logical reason for getting vaccine. People who don’t get them are either miscalculating their risk (you prob aren’t good at poker), misinformed by SM, or you’re being split/played by politicians for political gain.
11/ Uncertainty is scary, I get it. But if you saw the uncertainty & reverse-lottery destruction done by Sars-Cov2 first hand on patients, like many Dr’s on here have, you’d be pounding the table to get vaccinated ✌️ #vaccineSideEffects #VaccinesWork #Covid
* no logical reason for not getting (yes a typo, get vaccinated!)

And now I make every argument @Jabaluck made about physicians making too much and adding to healthcare costs, only with professors adding to higher education costs (THREAD)
1/ Did you know the US pays more in tuition for college than any other country in the world?!?
2/ If you include Private Tuition like @jabaluck's illustrious @Yale , we're about at least 3x more than the next closest countries

Yes our health system has lots of waste. But @sjauhar’s op-Ed makes incorrect assumptions that are just flat out wrong (thread)
1/ Back in late March/early April, I saw the most string of codes (or patients who essentially were had died at home) in my career. Why is that? 🤔
2/ well we know there has been a spike in extra non-Covid deaths, likely from avoiding hospital care nytimes.com/interactive/20…

Thread on some ED Doc's thoughts on dealing with #COVID19US on frontlines
1/ First PPE: At this point, everyone should be wearing a surgical mask at your desk and in ED. No eating or drinking unless in Staff lounge, away from patient care
2/ When going into a potential #Covid19 room, wear a N-95 if you have it. Put a surgical (eg. regular) mask over it to protect it, then wear a face shield over that. Googles not as good, but we'll take what we can get.
