Power of Desire (Thread)

1) The Story of Edwin C. Barnes

“There is but one thing in this world that I am determined to have, and that is a business association with Thomas A. Edison. I will burn all bridges behind me and stake my entire future on my ability to get what I want” Image
2) But Barnes had no invention to his name, no particular skills of use, and couldn’t scrape together the meager amount of money it’d take to pay his rail fare to New Jersey(where Edison lived)
3) He had no money, no guarantee he’d even get to meet the legendary inventor, nothing promising to offer Mr. Edison should he cross paths with him, and absolutely no hint of a reason to believe that Edison would take him on in any capacity.

All Barnes did have was desire🏆 Image
4) Barnes arrived in New Jersey and managed to meet Edison. Upon meeting Barnes, Edison says,

“He stood there before me, looking like an ordinary tramp, but there was something in the expression of his face which conveyed that he was determined to get what he had come after.” Image
5) Edison says, “I had learned, from years of experience with men, that when a man really desires a thing so deeply that he is willing to stake his entire future on a single turn of the wheel in order to get it, he is sure to win”

And he gave Barnes the opportunity
6) Barnes did not get his partnership with Edison on his first interview.
He did get a chance to work in the Edison offices, at a very nominal wage, doing work that was unimportant to Edison, but most important to Barnes.
7)In doing this irrelevant work, Barnes made a point to showcase his more intangible attributes to Edison any chance he could. His unrelenting mindset was “I came here to go into business with Edison, and I’ll accomplish this end if it takes the remainder of my life.” Image
8) Months passed and still, Barnes goal went unrealized. But then came an opportunity

Edison had just completed work on a new office device, at the time named the Edison Dictating Machine; later known as the Ediphone.
9) Edison was having trouble getting his salesmen to take on the invention. They thought it’d take just short of a miracle to sell the thing.
10) In this struggle, Barnes saw his opportunity. He believed that he could sell the machine and approached Edison with a plan on how he’d do so. Upon reviewing the strategy, Edison gave him his chance. Image
11) Barnes took full advantage and went on a roll selling the Ediphone. His success was such that Edison eventually gave him an exclusive contract to distribute and market the device all over the nation! Image
12) Their association as business partners became so well known, it gave birth to the slogan,

“Made by Edison and installed by Barnes.” Image
13)The venture made Edwin Barnes lot of money and their partnership lasted 30 years.

“We all have this ability inside us. The big question is whether we wish to go all in for our desire.”

Thread : Tech Stack at our Company

1) Technology is at the core of how we approach trading & we consider ourselves as much a technology company as a trading firm.

The tech team has remained under the hood so let me introduce the team & the tech stack used.

2) Django :

We use the Django framework for most of our web apps (in house scanners) as it encourages rapid development & clean, pragmatic design.
3) Python

Python is extensively used for backtesting as various open-source modules like pandas, NumPy, Talib, Backtrader, FFN, Matplotlib, and many more data analytics & visualization tools are built on top of it.

Python helps us in analysing large datasets in a easy way

How I turned -7 L to +1 L intraday ?

1) In the morning, I had created 37000 PE and 31700 CE as per the system.
But BNF fell initially 400 points and 37000 PE SL got hit at 400

And MTM at 10 am was - 2 L due to PE SL hit.

#trading #system
2) As 37000 PE got hit, I sold 36500 PE around 100.

So open position now were
36500 PE sell &
37100 CE sell

But to my dismay now bnf rallied almost 600 points from day low😖 & due to IV spike strangle lost 100 points & I exited everything.

MTM loss now was around -7 L :(
3) I was almost near my daily loss limit, took one last trade as today being a wednesday there’s good theta decay.

I created :
36500 PE 6500 qty
37100 PE 5000 qty
& 37200 CE 11500 qty

As 2021 begins, I would like to highlight the importance of perseverance & positive thinking.

The aim of this thread is to motivate people to stay committed to their goals.

Sharing few of accomplishments which I never thought would have been possible.

Dream BIG !
1)I did a 2 day quantitative trading seminar @iitbombay focussed on system driven trading and got a great response.

Being a introvert,I always shied speaking on the stage & this was my first public speaking apperance & learnt the importance of people’s skills.
2) Seeing my IIT Bombay seminar post, I got approached by @JBIMS, a top MBA institute to share my insights on system driven and markets for their MBA students.

I realised the importance of brand building and self promotion.

Today I suggested Naukri on on @CNBC_Awaaz and hit upper circuit.

So why did I recommend Naukri (InfoEdge) ?

Analysis

1) Trend :

It was trading at all time high which indicates strong bullish trend

#trading #stocks
2) Strength of Trend:

The red candle formed on 21st dec (circled) was immediately rejected the next day.

This indicates the strength of bulls.
3) Sign of a leader :

I like to buy stocks which have already doubled from 52 week low and hit a new high every 6 months.

Naukri was around 1600 in March 20 and is almost 3 x and satisifies the critera

How to manage straddles :

1) As bnf open was within yesterday range created a 29000 straddle at around 9:30 am

29000 PE sold at 528 and
29000 CE sold at 453

#trading #OptionsTrading
2) Instead of keeping SL on sold legs. I keep SL on otm options in the system

SL was on 28000 PE at 220 (day high)
SL was on 30000 CE at 165 (day high)
3) At 10:15 am, Bnf started to trend down and 28000 PE was bought at 220 and I immediately bought 30000 CE at 110
