If you live in occupied Donbas & felt all your life that you're Russian, belong to Russia, want to join RU, it's a mistake to continue living in Donbas. Donbas will never be RU. For the future of your kids and grandkids, you should seek your place in Russia.
- President Zelensky
Zelensky makes an absolutely uncharacteristic statement which is a massive departure from his stated objective and policy of "winning hearts and minds" of Ukrainians in Russia-occupied Donbas, Ukraine.
Even though many would agree with the general sentiment, not only it is at odds with Zelensky's previous position, it is a dangerous - and possibly harmful - way for the president of Ukraine to address residents of Russia-occupied Ukraine.
Zelensky's statement is especially suspect given the imminent threat of another Russian offensive. Putin is looking for a casus belli in order to make a new big move against Ukraine. It appears Ze's statement delivered it to Putin on a silver platter.
Russia immediately grabbed the opportunity, staging several attacks on residential areas in RU-occupied Ukraine, blaming UA for the shelling, claiming the UA army was acting on Ze's statement.
And then came the BIG switch in RU's propaganda narrative...
Everything points to Moscow preparing to implement an Ossetian and Abkhazian like scenario in Donbas, they key element of which was to legitimize Russian troops on the ground as "peace keepers" "protecting Russian citizens".
Ze's statement seems primed to be used as a piece in Russia's propaganda puzzle to justify sending the regular RU army undisguised into Ukraine on official Kremlin orders.
RU is claiming that Ze wants to wipe Donbas clean of Russians through violence.
Russia can use Zeleneky's statement further and allege that he himself knows that the Ukrainians (who now hold Russian passports) in Donbas feel Russian, are loyal to Russian, and feel a part of the Russian Federation.
Considering how uncharacteristic the statement was, how perfect a gift to the Kremlin it appears to be, and that Moscow acted on it *immediately*, it is extremely difficult not to question Ze's motives in dropping his "win the hearts and minds" approach.
I recently expressed concern about how many double dose vaccinated people were going back to pre-Covid normal, and were partying it up too much. I got serious shit from a lot of people. Several of the “we need a break from these measures and deserve to relax now” got COVID.
I take zero pleasure in that fact. I share it because they are the same people who, (as I expected) now that they got infected after vaccination, are warning people to “take delay seriously” and “keep wearing a mask even if fully vaxxed” because they didn’t and got sick.
We shouldn’t have to go through this insanity. We need to be adequately informed about what Covid is, how it spreads, what vaccines do, and why we still need the added layer of preventative safety measures like masks for now.
I don’t want anyone to become infected with this horrible virus
But I would certainly prefer staunch anti-vaxxers who will not even have a civil convo be the ones to fall ill over a child who got sick because our governments have failed us.
I’ve lost family to COVID. Death came far too soon. Family & friends have suffered COVID induced stroke, heart attack, and a plethora of other horrible ailments. Some with “very mild” almost asymptomatic cases are experiencing the very real hell of #LongCovid. It’s awful.
My son was born at the outset of the pandemic. Our lives are full of challenges because of this pandemic. I know how hard it is for many. But I can guarantee that it will NOT get better on the course many places are taking. Just look at Florida. The numbers are STAGGERING.
You know, if people were more open and honest about what is said in casual private conversations, many a “friend” and “expert” on Ukraine would suffer some serious reputational damage.
I’ve been in situations where the following things have been expressed:
- a then western ambo to Ukraine (who enjoys great standing among Ukrainians) told me that Russian oligarch, Mikhail Friedman, is a “good guy” with “an undeservedly bad rep” & is actually a FRIEND to Ukraine;
- a young female “expert” who spent several years working on Ukraine, visits often, and always publicly says how much she loves Ukrainians, said she had “no choice but to be celibate” in Ukraine because the men are “so disgusting” & “you know they are definitely all bad in bed”;
Why is @bellingcat helping Moscow & Minsk pursue the narrative that the captured Belarusian dissident Roman Protasevich is a neo-Nazi?
EVEN IF HE IS - which everyone who knows him says he absolutely is not - THIS IS NOT THE STORY. Only Putin & Lukashenko want you to think it is.
Russia and Belarus (let’s not kid ourselves that Belarus did this on its one) hijacked a plane to kidnap and jail a journo critical of the evil Lukashenko regime. They want to distract from the air piracy and detention of a dissident who may very likely be killed by the state.
THAT is the story. Two evil, rogue, terrorist, authoritarian regimes manufacture cause to detain and then torture and kill those who dare to utter a critical word. Not that who they detained could be anything the regimes claim about him to distract from their criminality.
It is seriously messed up that two hours a day is considered “limited” screen time for a toddler or child. That is an incredibly long period of time per day in a two year old’s life, and even in the day of a six year old.
We have allowed ourselves to be conned that there is “good” programming that is “educational” and so “valuable” learning tools for a child. As if we cannot teach children their ABC’s and 1,2,3’s without screens.
It reminds me a little of the “must” food that is a staple in many a home with infants and young children - puffed o’s like Cheerios. An “essential” for infants to develop their pincer grasp. How oh how did babies EVER learn to pick anything up before Cheerios?
People need to be reminded that Putin CHOSE the path of confrontation and of aggression. Putin CHOSE to shatter peace. He CHOSE to sow chaos. He CHOSE to rule a mafia state as an authoritarian. He CHOSE this path totally unprovoked.
After the collapse of the USSR, the West rolled out the red carpet to Moscow. There was no Nuremberg equivalent for Moscow’s multiple genocides. Russia was included in intl orgs which it had no business being in as it hadn’t met the requirements. And western money showered RU.
Putin had NO legitimate cause whatsoever to CHOOSE the path of aggression and confrontation. He chose it because he wanted absolute power, money, control, and status on the world stage. To date, we can see Russia doesn’t have the patience - or ambition - to evolve to that point.
