🚨⚠️🚨 #VeryLongThread 🚨⚠️🚨

My apologies but there isn't enough emoji in the world to be able to capture the gravity of human catastrophe in Iran due to #COVID19.

I wrote a thread 10 days ago but it is just so much worse.

TL;DR
If you cannot read the whole thread, here are the takeaways:

- The health system already imploded under load
- Patients admitted on the floor of hospitals
- Shortage of coffins and morgue vehicles let alone beds
- Iran theocracy does not back down from Moharram ceremonies
Chairman of the society of Emergency Medicine in Iran:

"The health system already imploded - even private hospitals - and the officials know it. Patients with 50% O2 level in ward beds, waiting for ICU patients to die. There is nothing we can do."

This the CPR room in Mashhad, people are being CPRed on the floor. There was a photo that I cannot find anymore where the CPR room was used for admitting patients.
This is Babol in Mazandaran province, people are receiving [Remdicivir] drips on the street.

This clip shows the morgues of Mazandaran full of the dead, and then nurses crying that they cannot serve all the patients and they are dying.

This is just one morgue in Mashhad. There are reports that taxis have now been used to carry the dead as there is a shortage of ambulances.

The status of hospitals in Mazandaran which has lead to set up makeshift hospitals

Shortage of medicine, even IV fluids.

This is a reference pharmacy in Tehran.
Only 4% of the population has been vaccinated. Why?

Well first of all, the Supreme Leader banned import of English and American vaccines. Iran ordered vaccines from China and Russia but Russia did not deliver and simply not enough vaccines imported.

It is now being reported that Iran rejected American and British vaccines DONATED to them. Supreme Leadr

Well, for propaganda purposes and as a new channel for corruption, Iran announced that it will MAKE vaccine - self-reliance is a big slogan.
The money flowed in and videos published to build the infrastructure. This video showed the progress of the building although it was shown as the progress of the PROJECT.

Now it is clear they cannot deliver - so far they have delivered 1.3M doses. Iranian vaccine project is now a fiasco. The pictures from the process of MAKING these vaccines is quite embarrassing.
The official responsible for the project yesterday confirmed that labels are attached manually.

It is now clear this was just a hollow propaganda costing thousands of lives... the new elected president yesterday: "Our local production is not enough, we need to import at least 30-40M doses." Too little, too late.

Why too late?

A recent analysis [yesterday] of excess death shows at least 200K deaths - I think it is considerably more than that.

This will put Iran as the worst place on earth as for COVID - highest number of death per population.

bbc.com/persian/iran-5…
As for Barakat vaccine (which I shared the pictures of the 'production line'), only a single article been published for animal trial and is a laughing stock.

While only an anecdote, an actor who took part in the human trial got covid after two doses.

So what is in front of us?

Moharram/Ashura ceremonies - last year it lead to the deadly 3rd wave. Now? We are in the middle of 5th wave and COVID Taskforce in Mashhad said "we are in crisis but CANNOT cancel the ceremonies.".

Out of 16K hospital beds in Tehran, 11K are occupied by COVID patients. Collateral damage of delayed critical operations (such as heart bypass, etc) will be something we will never be able to measure.

Official COVID mortality has broken another record and now at nearly 600.

The outspoken Iranian Medical Council says those who blocked the import of vaccine - something that can be extended even to the Supreme Leader.

I have a big list of tweets to quote on the provincial impact of COVID on the health system but I will spare you that. In short, all provinces are dealing with unprecedented levels of COVID outbreak. This even includes Gilan and Mazandaran.

For those who have followed up my COVID threads, they know that Gilan had only a severe 1st wave. Khuzestan a severe 3rd wave. Mazandaran 1st and 3rd. Tehran and Mashhad the 4th wave.

For the 5th wave (delta variant), they are all impacted.
Also if you remember, during the 1st wave I had listed a big list of officials that died due to COVID. Now, very few.

Here Mahmoud Ahmadinezhad claims the officials have used American/British vaccines banned for the public - people long suspected that.

#BREAKING Dr. Zali, head of Tehran COVID Taskforce has conducted in interview making scathing remarks - I cannot believe my eyes reading this...

1) He CONFIRMED that "Iran hid the real number of COVID casualties from WHO"

ilna.news/%D8%A8%D8%AE%D…
2) Iran imported $720M worth of Remdicivir which its efficacy is very small if any. With this money they could have imported >100M doses enough to vaccinate everyone [THIS IS A DISGRACE]

3) Why China which is so called strategic partner does not provide enough vaccine?
4) Why can we buy oil industry equipments [read weapons] at x3 their price but not vaccines?

5) They did not import vaccines since they said it would be expensive

6) We asked for Wom lockdown during 1st wave they ridiculed us and said we will control it

Dr. Zali's interview has completely exploded the Iranian social media as well as the establishment media and now officials each scrambling for cover.

FM deputy: why Health Ministry did not use $150M we allocated for medicine [cuz we needed vaccine idiot!]
Here Dr. Zali is saying that when WHO officials arrived in Iran, they were asked to conduct interviews making positive remarks

#BREAKING Zarif, Iranian Foreign Minister has spoken and threatened to reveal information:

1) who chose the Chinese vaccine? [Not me]
2) who first discussed COVID in gov meeting? [I did]
2) which minister picked Russian vaccine in his trip to Russia?
...

...
4) which ministry imported 24M vaccine doses? [only 17M vaccine injected so far 2M of which was Iranian, where is the other 9M??]
5) Which ministry rejected proforma for importing 20M vaccine [The health ministry: they had personal financial gain in national vaccine project]
When the Supreme Leader banned use of American/English vaccines, 2500 sycophant physicians wrote a letter in support with baseless claims about those vaccines.

Today, one of them was proposed by the president elect as the Health Minister (most likely will be approved)
#BREAKING Head of the Iranian Red Crescent just disclosed that Iran could import vaccines back in Feb 2021 but they could not get the approval from above.

Impacts of sanctions all lies, Iran theocracy CHOSE not to import

This is Mashhad cemetery, and only first degree relatives are allowed.

Yet, see the queue.

More SHOCKING REVELATIONS this morning [Did the Supreme Leader yesterday ask for the 'culprits' to be tried?]:

head of Tehran Chamber of Commerce revealed that last March they were trying to import 6M doses of vaccine but the Health Ministry opposed.

Today's official records - even according to this:

- record level daily death
- unprecedented number of COVID ICU admissions
It could have not been more ironic: Iranian COVID Taskforce are receiving prizes for their groundbreaking work from the hands of the Chief commander of IRGC and the Health Minister - this is today.

Ambulances in Ahvaz refusing to carry COVID patients and this patient is being carried on the streets.

We deserve better.

Meanwhile the medical stuff, only very recently as I can remember, have started with public protests on pay, rights, etc. This is a protests in Hamadan by the medical students and interns:
This one is medical students in Kermanshah

There is a critical shortage of nurses across the country. Every month 500 nurses emigrate from Iran - something that has increased fivefold in a single year.

This heartbreaking (and politically charged and angry) video is making rounds in the social media.

With the revelations since yesterday, people feel absolutely betrayed and completely angry.

#Thread How to make a full blown protest out of absolutely nothing (a pretty harmless video) - Iranian Style

Prologue
Junqan, a town with the population of 14K, in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province. Most Iranians had not heard its name before today.
Preface

This man, admittedly brave and named Habib Fadaee, went on a soapbox 20 days ago to state his support for the people of Khuzestan and their protests.

The video was circulated in the social media although we did not know much more. Obviously people forgot about it.
ACT I - the security forces decide to arrest him this morning, as now protests are over and they need to show him who is the boss.

This resulted in a protests by the locals of Junqan - here is his son recording this video.

I know I am sounding like a broken record now, but Iran's health system is experiencing a crisis not seen before, due to COVID's 5th wave.

Universal shortage of beds, ventilator, ICU and even saline drips across the country. Casualties mounting.
This is a hospital in the southern province of Bushehr. Patients on the floor receiving oxygen.

If the 3rd wave were a 7 Richter earthquake, this is surely above than 8.

The same seen here in northwestern city of Tabriz, Iran's 4th largest city.

Health minister has asked for permission to SHUT DOWN THE COUNTRY for 2 weeks.

So that was it? The protests stopped?

While days 14 and 15 we had almost no protests, days 16 and 17 suddenly we saw some major protests again.

As I said, something has changed. With a little trigger or opportunity, people show their resentment.

Yesterday (day 16) was the last day of the Iranian football league with Perspolis winning the championship. The celebrations quickly turned to the scenes of protests in Tehran, Karaj, Qazvin, etc.

This is the scene with security forces clashing riding on motorbikes.
The tip of the slogans are directed towards the Supreme Leader in an unprecedented way.

Here they use a slur word, calling him a 'pimp'.

Look guys - THE SITUATION IN THE MIDDLE EAST IS PRETTY SERIOUS.

(I know you might say when it wasn't but we are talking risk of a big conflict)

The thread on the reports from the last 24 hours: /0
On the Iranian side, I have seen anecdotal comments from tweeps close to IRGC that "the big fight" is very close and mothers should prepare for the martyrdom of their sons.

[Prefer not to include the tweets]
Israeli Air Force commander describing the situation in the middle east as "explosive".

So far what we have seen is a ton of preparation and warning against any sort of conflict.

I hope it stays that way.
And this one from the commander of the Iranian Air Force: "Any [foolish] adventurous action in the region by the adversaries will be responded with a strong response".
