I'll decrypt each bit in the thread 🧵

Title: "Government sets out pragmatic new timetable for introducing border controls"

What we set out to do before was not practical. And we want to lodge it in your minds we're not ideologues.

Emphasis box:
"- Revised timetable will give businesses more time to adjust to new processes"

Revised timetable will give government more time to complete the truck parks

"- Global pandemic has affected supply chains in the UK and across Europe"

IT'S NOT BREXIT! Err it is...

Thanks for that. Brexit is primary among them, and impacts mostly the UK

"This is being felt particularly by the agri-food sector, where new requirements on importing products of animal origin were due to be introduced from next month."

Yep. Brexit has buggered up things for them most severely of all. We know what you don't say...

"Rather than introduce these controls at this time, the government has listened to those who have called for a new approach to give businesses more time to adjust."

We, the government weren't ready. But we like to call that listening instead.

Frost quotes:
"We want businesses to focus on their recovery from the pandemic rather than have to deal with new requirements at the border"

aka we realise that adding the headache of border checks due to Brexit is all too much

"The government remains on track to deliver the new systems, infrastructure and resourcing required."

This one had me 🤣

The very reason for this announcement is PRECISELY THE OPPOSITE - the systems are NOT on track!

End paras:

"The government will work closely with the Devolved Administrations on the implementation of this new timetable"

We'll tell them all what to do

"We remain on track to deliver new systems, infrastructure and resourcing needed for these controls"

Didn't Frost just say that? Maybe you're underlining the point you're not ready a little too much?
