#Greece and France, said the Prime Minister, are today taking the first step towards European defence independence.
French defense and foreign ministers Florence Parly and Jean-Yves Le Drian, and Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias were also part of the signing.
The deal foresees the purchase by Greece of three French-built, state-of-the-art frigates, with the option of a fourth, and a delivery date of between 2025 and 2026.
The frigates will also be compatible with the jets Greece is also purchasing from France. It has already ordered some 24 Dassault-made Rafales this year.
The agreement, said Macron, strengthens cooperation in the area of security and helps safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of both countries.

The most basic and fundamental human rights enshrined in the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights are denied to #Tibetans in Tibet since its illegal occupation by #China in 1950.
Any single act or mere opinion not to the liking of the Chinese government can be met with severe consequences and punishment. Tibetans are also denied their rights to self-determination, a rule of customary international law.
Until the grave human rights abuses in Tibet are addressed, the Chinese government’s claim to be a rightful ruling government of Tibet remains illegitimate.
The #FDI Hellenic Navy will be a power and sovereignty asset for #Greece. As a result, the #Hellenic Navy will necessarily be integrated into any planning of inter- allied naval air operations and will have a very high military resilience in combat.
#FDI is not only an excellent naval power asset, it is also a valuable anti-missile system capable of fighting both cruise missile and ballistic missile attacks.
The joint use of the Sea Fire radar and her missiles already offers an excellent platform to protect a sensitive site with very little notice and without constraint.
