I tried to warn Ian Hislop about these people a few times years and years and years and years ago, but he wouldn't listen. I was a blogger and therefore not capable of real journalism in his eyes.

To be specific: I reported to Ian Hislop several times that Tories including Nadine Dorries were using false allegations of criminal behaviour to target their critics.

He never took this seriously.

(It did not help that @adam_macqueen involved himself.)

Adam Macqueen sided with Iain Dale over some allegations that got this kicking off when the first fabricated evidence started showing up. He made some intemperate comments that the people involved continue to throw in my face to day, years later, just as I told him they would.

Macqueen lost his rag with me because I had complained that he and Private Eye had taken credit for the journalism I had done.

I did all the work and took all of the risk. He took the credit.

I'm still being targeted today over the same damn story.

Rather than admit this and/or confront one of the biggest liars in Parliament at the time, Ian Hislop took the view that the whole can of worms was best avoided, and so followed years of light-to-no coverage on Dorries in Private Eye. Some mockery, sure, but never anything solid.

So, again, Ian Hislop was specifically warned about this specific pattern of Dorries and her gang lashing out at critics with dangerous lies years ago, but decided it was not something worth covering.

It might have been different if Adam Macqueen had acted more professionally.
