🚨🚨 New @AEI report: @james_d_paul and Robert Maranto release the first empirical examination of just how prevalent #DEI statement requirements have become in #HigherEducation hiring. /THREAD bit.ly/3bT3vna
Nearly one in five #professors are now being selected based on not only academic merit but also their commitment to a particular ideological vision—and, due to conservative coding schemes, this number may be even higher. /1
19% of job postings studied require diversity statements, while 68% include the terms “diversity” or “diverse” in some fashion. /2
34% of job postings from elite colleges and universities, which comprised 28% of the sampled job postings, required DEI statements, compared to only 13% of job postings at non-elite institutions. /3
Roughly 24% of social science job postings require DEI statements, whereas only 18% of job postings in STEM and 17 % in other disciplines had these requirements. /4
27 % of jobs in the West require DEI statements, and 71 % mention diversity. By contrast, in the Southeast, only 13 % of jobs require DEI statements, and 63 % include the word “diversity.” /5
DEI requirements appear substantially less likely for adjunct jobs relative to other faculty positions. /6
For more, including whether differences in school prestige, region, and discipline are statistically significant predictors of DEI requirements, read the full report: bit.ly/3bT3vna. /End
THREAD: New data from the #Return2Learn Tracker! @AEI's @natmalkus continues to follow how school districts across the United States are changing and adapting to the ongoing #COVID19 pandemic. /1
#R2L data reveal that in-person instructional offerings keep growing. By February 22, more districts offered fully in-person options than any time since the beginning of November. /1
There are stark differences in offerings by urbanicity. Fully remote rural districts are now in the single digits at 8%. By contrast, urban districts have more than triple the proportion at 29%, & suburban have more than double the proportion of fully remote districts at 20%. /2
NEW from @AEI: The #Return2Learn Tracker, developed by @natmalkus and @C2Initiative, follows how school districts across the United States are changing and adapting to the ongoing #COVID19 pandemic. /THREAD
#R2L monitors 8,000+ public school districts on a weekly basis & presents the data by numerous measures. It identifies the current instructional status of all regular public school districts with 3 or more schools, categorizing them as fully in-person, hybrid, or fully remote. /2
The latest round of #R2L data collection shows that over one third of school districts are open with an option for fully in-person instruction five days per week for all students. /3
(1/5) How should school leaders and policymakers plan for school reopening given the lack of clear guidance? @John_Bailey offers some thoughts @EducationNextbit.ly/2wBtoHg
(2/5) Since we do not seem to be near a peak yet, we're likely to see governors extend closures for another 2-4 weeks. A number will close for the rest of the year.
(3/5) School and state leaders will need to continue efforts to mitigate the loss of learning from this year’s closures including strengthening remote learning options, providing #SEL supports, and adjusting school meal distribution.
