⚠️41x DROP IN NEUTRALIZATION—first lab study of #Omicron neutralization is out from @sigallab. Huge drops in Pfizer vaccine’s neutralization of #Omicron variant—from ~1321 to just ~32. Even Pfizer+infection saw sharp drop. But I’m hopeful for boosters (stronger than infection).🧵 Image
2) This 41x is a huge drop in neutralization. The majority of the samples had degrees of vaccine escape. Only 5 had incomplete escape- among those vaccinated also with another infection (akin to a booster).

3) Notably, when you compare prior infection versus vaccine **head to head** (without layering on top) — the vaccine protected 5x stronger than previous infection. See this CDC study.

3) There has been 332 people in South Africa 🇿🇦 documented with a 3rd infection (aka a two reinfections). And 35k with one reinfection.

2) This one is more significant than the SF case yesterday because SF #Omicron had South Africa travel. This MN case had only domestic travel. And Nov 19-21 in NYC dates it before the variant was discovered and reported for the first time by South African authorities! 👀
