#Cardus, a registered “charity”, wants taxpayers to fund private for-profit religious schools & a voucher system that has gutted public education in 🇺🇸.

This model would siphon needed funds from public schools & funnel them instead to schools with RW religious ideology #ONpoli

#Cardus revenues = nearly $5M/yr.
Cardus’ donations from other charities increased 17.4 X from 2008-2020. A nearly 2,000% increase in just over a decade. Yet they pay zero in taxes, because “charity”…like lobbying to gut public education in favour of for-profit religious schools

Looking at the charities that donate to #Cardus is both telling & suspicious. Like rabidly far right anti-choice extremist groups like “Focus on the Family”. The fact that Lecce meets with Cardus while ignoring parenting groups fighting for public education, is chilling. #OntEd

But that’s not all.

#Cardus parters with other groups like CLAC (Christian Labour Association of Canada), an anti-union front group that poses as union advocacy. They create propaganda to bust unions & oppose #LivingWage & #FightFor15. richardhughes.ca/ndps-community… #CanLab #Cdnpoli

These right wing Christian organizations are well funded & are influencing public policy in multiple countries at all levels of government. They mount court challenges, have complex propaganda networks & funding operations. I.e. another Cardus partner is #Charis (.com .ca .org)

When operating from a position of religious ideology as a means to achieve power, as we’ve witnessed in 🇺🇸, the ends always justify the means in the minds of the “chosen”. Code words like “religious freedom” “school choice” “free speech” are used to manipulate the public.#cdnpoli

So when parents struggling to pay for childcare in Ontario aren’t getting the #10dollarChildcare the Trudeau gov’t negotiated with EVERY OTHER PROVINCE, remember who put you in that position & why. #VoteFordOut2022 #FireLecce #OntEd #ONpoli #cdnpoli

A loathsome addendum to this 🧵. White privileged individuals of #Cardus hid behind using POC & immigrants to justify spreading disinformation about #VaccinePassports. Non expert, Ed Bosveld of Cardus, penned an open letter for Cardus, misrepresenting the facts. #covidontario
