Hi leaders across the country. Is this thing on? Is anyone listening? This messaging "everyone's going to get it" isn't helping. We need mask requirements when indoors, vaccine requirements for engaging in society, like going into restaurants. We need help. Please do something.

We need to reimplement risk mitigation strategies. Capacity limits. Social distancing. We know SO MUCH more than we did a year ago. Why are we not doing what we know works?! These restrictions don't need to be long term. They can be short lived once we get things under control.

We aren't asking for things to be shut down altogether. We know #VaccinesWork, #BoostersWork, #MasksWork. We also know what exponential spread looks like, and what it does to hospitals and healthcare workers.

I'm wondering how much what is happening here on the ground is actually making it up the chain to the people making the decisions. So consider this trying to use the platform I have to put out the Bat Signal.

If you are in a position of power, and you aren't directly clinical, please reach out to the healthcare workers on the ground on the frontlines. If the messaging isn't getting there, help get it to someone who needs to hear it.

We really don't want to keep being the canary in the coa mine. Listen to the people who are on the ground doing the work and seeing what is happening in realtime. The repercussions of our actions now will be felt for years to come.

We are facing a crisis on multiple levels.
1. No staff (they have burned out/left/retired/gone non clinical or they themselves are sick)
2. We are seeing more COVID19 and also non-COVID19 illnesses.
3. We have supply chain issues.
4. We have new variants that are spreading fast

5. There is much more vitriol against HCW now, it doesn't feel like we are "all in this together." It feels like we are yelling into the wind and people aren't listening.
6. Many of the risk mitigation strategies of 2020/early 2021 are gone

7. Even the strategies still there many are not adhering to.
8. People are gathering with family and friends. Many are testing prior, but many can't find the tests they need to test before gathering.

9. It feels that many have been lulled into a false sense of security that this pandemic is over.
10. Everyone has COVID19 fatigue. We all are sick and tired of this virus.

But again, we KNOW what works!
If you are a leader and have any sway at any level, use your voice and power to get some working plans in place. And please DON'T say "we will wait until after the holidays to implement these plans."

Do what needs to be done now. These decisions now may not only save people who have COVID19, it may preserve a bed for your neighbor who has a heart attack, or your family member with an asthma exacerbation, or your nephew with pneumonia.
Make the hard decisions now.
