Let the doctors, epidemiologists, govt expert committees worry about the data from other nations and what it means for India (or any other nation - everything below writing applies to all).
As a layman, here's what you need to do:
1. MASK UP. Cannot stress more. N95 or 3ply surgical. I know not everyone can afford N95. Cover your face with a good quality mask as far as possible.
2. SOCIAL DISTANCING. Yep. Same old "do gaj ki doori".
3. INDOOR VENTILATION. Ensure adequate ventilation indoors at all times.
4. GET VACCINATED. There's all kinds of news, true and false, going around about #Vaccines and #Omicron.
But the bottom-line is Vaccines are still protective. Against death. Against hospitalisation. Get your vaccines - 1st dose or 2nd dose - ASAP.
5. SYMPTOMS. Fever, sore throat, runny nose, headache, cough - consult a doc, get tested. Do not hesitate. It's for your own good. And follow the protocols for isolation and treatment if test is positive.
6. CONTACT TRACING. It is absolutely vital to track and list down all the people you were in contact with in the week before you tested positive. Let them know about your status so they can also monitor for symptoms and get tested if necessary.
You might feel this is all same old stuff. What's the hoopla around #Omicron then?
Omicron is another variant of the SARS-COV-2 virus - like we had Alpha, Beta or Delta. It has its own characteristics, it's traits - stuff we are still learning about everyday.
Data is coming in from many nations. And we've had conflicting interpretations of that data.
Some say Omicron is mild. Some say it is/can be severe.
Truth is - data from different nations varies based on local population, vaccination status, vaccines, testing and many factors.
So when you take to the news and social media for information - keep this in mind.
Don't jump to conclusions.
Don't spread unverified information - knowingly/unknowingly.

MYTH: #Lemon juice through the nose will kill the virus.
FACT:
Lemon juice is acidic. Taking undiluted lemon juice through the nose will damage the inner lining, cause irritation, and may cause bleeding as well. It will not kill the virus either. DON'T SNORT LEMON JUICE.
