Let's talk about the hatred towards Trudeau a little bit here. I doubt this Tweet will get much attention but I want to air this frustration I have, particularly with #Albertans over the age of 50 who are triggered into rage everytime you say "Trudeau".
TLDR: Get over it
🧵 1/x
I grew up in a conservative home, surrounded by those who worked in O&G and saw the fall out of the National Energy Program. I have heard the stories over & over of the economic collapse it created in Alberta.
I have been raised with the dogma that Trudeau = Satan
2/x
Justin Trudeau arrived and this man was doomed from Day 1 in Alberta. How many times have I heard "he's a draaammmma teacher 🙄", and yet these same people voted in a Bible college dropout?
3/x
How many times have I heard "He only got elected b/c of his name. Them Easterners just love the Trudeaus, thats why they voted for him", and yet our current premier is under investigation still by the RCMP for how he was elected within his own party
4/x
How many times have I heard "Trudeau hates Alberta and is going to drain us dry of our wealth", and yet conservative govts in Alberta have consistently burned our money like they were at a strip club for decades, never bothering to save it & driving us in to the ground
5/x
Now I'm hearing "Trudeau is responsible for the Ottawa blockade crisis" or "Why didn't Trudeau just talk to the protestors and come to an agreement?" or "Trudeau's vaccine mandates are the reason for all this drama & division, it's all his fault!"
Sorry folks: you're wrong
6/x
Trudeau is not responsible for the lack of clearing of the blockade. The federal govt has no jurisdiction on clearing out the streets of a municipality. They also had no influence on Coutts or the Ambassador Bridge. Those are under MUNICIPAL & PROVINCIAL govts
7/x
Trudeau also couls not negotiate with the protestors. Who was he going to meet up with? Have tea with Tamara Lich? Drink a beer with Pat King? Invite the GG and they could all draft a plan on a napkin for Trudeau's resignation & a coup d'etat, plus some port-a-potties?
8/x
Maybe he could have dropped the vaccine border mandate. Sure. But Biden is like "Cool, cool, IDGAF". Did we all forget that part? That a border has *two sides* and we don't control the Americans?
9/x
And before you say "Trudeau could have forced Biden to change his policy", let me stop you there before I start laughing hysterically. With what, folks?
JT: "Change your policy, or we won't export maple syrup"
JB:....
We can't make Americans do anything
10/x
And finally - if you have an issue with mandatory vaccine policies that caused people to lose their jobs, why are you pointing the finger at Trudeau? These policies were largely implemented by employers, in reaction to *provincial mandates*
Your beef is with the prov govt.
11/x
If you're mad that you didn't get to fly to Waikiki this yr because you're unvaccinated, okay, go yell at Trudeau. And WestJet. But the day to day issues of the unvaccinated was largely dictated by municipal & provincial mandates.
The hatred against Trudeau in Alberta is mostly an unjustified "feeling", driven by hot rage over Trudeau Sr. It makes us look like the angry rednecks that frankly, maybe we are. And it's being used against as as a weapon by Conservatives like Jason Kenney.
13/x
Stop letting Jason Kenney gaslight you by blaming the feds for everything.
Stop believing that Trudeau wants to burn Alberta to the ground.
Stop playing into the decades-old narrative that Alberta is a backwards conservative province
14/x
I'm not a fan of Trudeau & didn't vote for him. But at least I know why. I have reasons, like my current MP fits my values better and I am upset about his backtracking on electoral reform.
I don't hate him b/c his daddy threw my family under the bus in the 80s
15/x
So get over it Alberta. Your fight is not w/Trudeau. It never has been. You need to fight the institutions that have kept us hog-tied to O&G for decades. Open your eyes & realize we dug our own grave w/decades of incompetent prov leaders
Take it to them in 2023
16/fin
Add on: Seeing lots of people saying "Not just over 50!" Ya, that's obvious. This thread is meant specifically for those still raging about PET and the NEP. I could do an entire extra thread on Gen X/Millenials who have been fooled by lies/fake news on SM to hate JT....
.... That's a completely different Pandora's box that I didn't open in this 🧵. I need an essay re: my generation being brainwashed by the internet & how Silicone Valley has us by the balls/ovaries.
So if you feel targeted b/c you're >50, pls realize that's not the intent.
.... Well so much for thinking this Tweet wouldn't get much attention. Lol. I hit a nerve in Alberta I guess but I'm glad this is resonating with some of you. I hope it helped to put words to the frustration we have all been feeling in this circus over the last 3 weeks.

So millions of $$ has been raised & a cross-Canada truck convoy organized to protest supply shortages that haven't even happened. And yet we are understaffed in hospitals & schools everywhere. Where were these truckers for HCWs & teachers during 5 waves of #COVID19? 1/5
Where were the GoFundMes to raise money for masks & rapid tests for teachers? Where were the truck convoys to support nurses, doctors & HCWs being strained to their limits across the country?
Why is it important to decriminalize minor drug offenses? Why do I support this #harmreduction discussion that @CityofEdmonton is going to have in only a couple days?
I'm no storyteller like @drdagly and I'm not an expert like @ehyshka.
Aka: this is heavy. Welcome to my job. This is addiction med front lines. Come see what I see.

It's 2:30pm. I haven't eaten since 8am. I'm tired but we are pushing hard to admit as many as we can. We know the ERs are overloaded w/#COVID. If we can take a few of the patients off their list, maybe it will help just a bit.
@CMOH_Alberta: I didn't think I could reach a point where I would be more angry with you but here we are. By telling everyone to report their positive RATs to their Family Doctor, you have thrown us under the bus medicolegally. I have confirmed with CRA today. Read on
🧵1/10
I just had a patient test positive for COVID on a home RAT. She contacted fed EI and she is eligible for the Covid illness benefit but only if she gets a "medical note from her doctor verifying she has COVID"
So, Dr. Hinshaw & @jkenney, how do I legally prove this? 2/10
Anyone could download a picture of a positive RAT. They are practically memes right now. A photo means nothing. And yet, I'm legally responsible to verify this? If I verify they have covid simply by their self report over the phone, & they are lying, that is fraud
The very public mistake that @CMOH_Alberta made with the 14yr old who passed of cancer, not COVID, earlier this week is not a minor event that she can simply apologize for.
This was a really stupid error, and as someone who works in palliative care, I'll tell you why
🧵👇 1/11
First & foremost: What a horribly public way to disrupt a family's grieving process. I hope they find a way to forgive Dr.Hinshaw & public health, because holding resentment can be toxic to healing, but I wouldn't blame them if they were angry for a long time.

I have filled many death certificates. They are not easy. But in this pandemic, all MDs in this area of work know how important it is to distinguish causes of death from COVID. See @noelgibney 's excellent examples of how in this article:
Hey Twitter, today was particularly hard with angry, rude & demanding patients with strong anti-vaxx views. I didn't hold it together very well today and snapped at one. I feel very bad but I am giving myself space b/c I know I'm being pushed to my limits everyday.
Please be kind to your doc. We really want the best for you. If we are showing that we are upset, realize you might be pushing us too far. We are human too. Please leave when we say the visit is over, don't keep pushing. It's better to end the convo and come back to it later.
Feel free to post photos of fuzzy animals/pets below. I need a smile after that day. I am going to need to have some serious introspection & self-reflection later about the encounter, but right now, I just need to cool down for the evening so I can think clearly later
