"People for the first time saw what many people refused to acknowledge, which is that we've built a system that brutalizes Black people in the manner that we saw #GeorgeFloyd." Jaylani Hussein of @CAIRMN - speaking during a car protest in January 2022. /2 vimeo.com/669314120
In June 2021 Unicorn Riot went to Frankfurt & Berlin to show hear how the murder of #GeorgeFloyd impacted European countries. Germany is significant because it had the 2nd largest #BlackLivesMatter mobilizations in the world following the Floyd killing. /3 unicornriot.ninja/2021/one-year-…
Luna & Jackson from @blackpowerffm, Bafta Sarbo from Initiative of Black People in Germany (@ISDBund), & @der_neukoellner, an anti-racist activist, gave us valuable insight into the German reality and why a movement focusing on Black lives is of enormous importance. /4
Encapsulating Luna, Jackson, Bafta, & Ferat's discussions, our film 'One Year After #GeorgeFloyd in Europe: The Deep Roots of Racism in Germany' highlights Germany's racist past & present & how Floyd's killing led to a rise in Black power movements. /5

Words from an anonymous contributor who produced the Greek publication of 'One Year After #GeorgeFloyd in Europe'

"The police murder of #GeorgeFloyd ignited the fuse of the explosive American reality & revealed to the world how entrenched racism is in the United States..." /13
"... To the world, the killing revealed the ongoing & relentless attack & repression by the police & state against African American communities all over the US.

Through increasingly militarized ways, the United States’ Police forces continue to target the Black community..." /14
"...conducting racial war which is boiling under a dismantled society with torn social bonds & fear & oppression as the stamps of the social contract.

The flames of the uprising reached all over the world where neoliberal policies permiss police brutality..." /15
"...racial profiling, and a racist colonial perspective.

Demos appeared in nearly every country in the world with each place showing its own unique, autonomous characteristics. The spread preserved a fire that sent smoke signals of hope all over the planet..." /16
"...The fight against racism and death threats regarding your skin, language or sexuality belong to a common global struggle which should unite regardless of ideological differences and beyond different political starting points..." /17
"...Bringing together the 3 interviewees from various political backgrounds who are part of this beautiful symphony of protest & creation that lured the country’s ears after #GeorgeFloyd was killed spotlights the connections, bonds & interactions b/t local groups & abroad." /18

The person who was killed on Saturday in Portland was known as T. Rex. Comrades of hers say she took part in a lot of mutual aid work, and made people laugh and smile.
"If people want the protests to stop, then we need some fucking justice, that's gonna be the thing to make the protests stop. Driving into protests with cars isn't gonna make us stop, coming and showing up with guns to try and scare us isn't gonna make us stop, we will grow.."

NEW: Judge Cahill’s No-Knock Warrant Led to MPD Execution of Amir Locke
unicornriot.ninja/2022/judge-cah…
The judge who presided over Derek Chauvin’s #GeorgeFloyd murder signed an evidentiary search warrant to aid an investigation which amounted to a death sentence for Amir Locke. Image
Minneapolis city leadership previously promised to cease this dangerous practice. After reviewing Cahill’s record, activists say it reveals “a disturbing pattern.” Last week Mpls PD requested a no-knock warrant in a case where Amir Locke’s family claims it was unnecessary

The city has released body camera footage from yesterday's police killing of #AmirLocke during a no-knock warrant. Video shows police entering & kicking a couch that Locke was sleeping on. Locke rolled over & grabbed a gun & was killed. [CONTENT WARNING]
The video released tonight by the city of Minneapolis has been processed to blur the faces of MPD officers. It shows the killing of #AmirLocke from one angle among several that should exist if the body cameras were all working correctly.
In #AmirLocke's last moments he was bundled in a blanked on the couch - another MPD officer to the immediate right and one in the kitchen may reveal different details if their body cameras were active.
