#abpoli Remember when TFG was impeached, and yet stayed President, like nothing happened? It will be the same for Kenney. No one on the UCP executive will resign. Constituency Associations can fuss and issue ultimatims all they like. 1/
Disgruntled MLAs can posture and demand. The leadership review now seems to be a foregone conclusion, but should Kenney somehow get < 50%, he's not going anywhere. It's not legally binding. 2/
And with the shift to mail-in ballots, the fix is surely in, so it's moot anyway. Hell, he doesn't even really have to call an election until the 5 year anniversary of his election in 2019. There's nothing anyone can actually do to remove him. 3/
And this is the problem with a system that is predicated on politicians being "honourable ". We don't have a deus ex machina solution when it becomes obvious our elected representatives are actually grifters, con artists, and worse. 4/
And he knows this. He doesn't care if we hate him. Albertans don't matter. He is doing a job for someone who will, no doubt, reward him handsomely, and there's not a damn thing we can do about it. 5/5

What is going on in Canadian news media? This does not apply to ALL reporters, or all media sources all the time, but it applies to many of them all the time and all of them some of the time. #cdnmedia #cdnpoli 1/12
Reporters ask "gotcha" questions, then report on a lack of answer. Like reporters at the start of the pandemic demanding to know when the pandemic would end, then posting stories about how PMJT "refuses" to tell them when the pandemic will end. 2/12
News completely ignores good news stories, like water advisories being lifted. This does a disservice to all Canadians. Good news is worthy of reporting and is, indeed, important to report. If you only report things you deem negative, the media actually skews the news. 3/12

Why does someone choosing to continue to wear a mask enrage some who choose not to? It's a serious question. I don't think everyone who will begin going maskless tomorrow will be angry at those who remain masked, but some will be very angry, and aggressive. 1/5
I would like to understand how those who are maskless feel that someone wearing a mask affects them. Why does it matter to them? Why does it matter enough to some that they will say or do things to the masked person? Again, serious question. 2/5
I mean, it seems that a person wearing a mask is not interfering with a maskless person at all. So why are they so deeply offended? What is the reasoning? Those who say on social media that they will continue to mask are being answered with insults and derision. 3/5

Oh my! There is a lot to unpack here.

Jason Kenney, premier of Alberta, is crowing that he got together with a bunch of US Republican governors and wrote a letter. 1/20 #cdnpoli
"Today, I've signed a letter along with Premier Scott Moe, Governor Gianforte, and 15 OTHER American governors..." Are you confused about your national identity, Jason? Do you want so badly to be American that you are pretending that you are? 2/20
You wrote this letter, then announced it on Twitter, and you are accusing the federal government of political theatre? You have no concept of irony, do you?

What does one do if one lives in a country where about 3/4 of the people are reasonable, who care about others, want to have their taxes work towards the public good, want universal health care and excellent public education, but the official opposition wants none of that? 1/20
What if one lives in a country where the official opposition spends all their time and energy trying to unseat the government? Who actually makes things up to try to turn the public against the government they elected? 2/

Who may even have had more than a passing involvement in an coup attempt? CPC MPs, along with provincial conservative MLAs, were seen to be sympathetic to the convoy, some even meeting with them, buying them coffee and donuts, etc. 3/

I don't understand the thought process behind thinking that COVID restrictions are some sort of arbitrary control by the government that can be removed by yelling a lot, and then everything will be fine. #cdnpoli 1/10
COVID is a disease. It is spread via aerosol droplets which are breathed out by someone infected and breathed in by others. It is not political. It doesn't care how tired you are of restrictions. 2/10
When COVID started in Canada, back in March 2020, most people were concerned and actually were frustrated by the lack of response by many governments. A lack of response which made the spread and casualties worse than they would have been otherwise. 3/10

This is an example of normalizing the people in the convoy. There is tokenism (% of POC in photos doesn't seem represented in live video), there is rationalization of grievances, and there is hyperbole (people are being oppressed? Really?). 1/8
The photography has been played with, loads of contrast and over-sharpening to create visual impact. It's not that these people are extraordinary or are emanating some sort of truth. It's that there is a skilled photographer and digital editor behind the pictures. 2/8
But those of a certain view love it. They are claiming this is great journalism. It isn't. "Accountant quits his job because he has to wear a mask at work because he won't get vaccinated". Sounds like his firm accommodated him, not like he was repressed. 3/8
