⚠️My god — #COVID19 hospitalizations up ⬆️ 33% in just 1 week in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿!📌Plus COVID deaths rose ⬆️ 8% in a week too! #BA5 and #BA4 are surging like mad in England - not even dominant yet - and it’s already bad. 📌Hospitalizations in young kids up 30% too! #CovidIsNotOver 🧵
2) Look at the COVID hospitalization turnaround - it’s quite sharp!! Across all ages!
3) Hospital admissions in England🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 among 0-5 years olds! Look at that swing — it’s over 36% jump in a week!
4) Deaths? Yes, excess deaths increased a lot in South Africa during their #BA5 and #BA4 wave. It’s still increasing. South Africa’s over 1800 excess deaths a week for a country of 60 million is a lot. That would be almost 10,000 excess deaths a week if a population like US!

6) The #BA5 excess mortality numbers are real. They are official data for SA. Let’s not kid around. 1800 excess deaths per week is a LOT for a country of 60 mil.
7) Damn… even worse, the new #BA5 / #BA4 wave of England hospitalization surge is increasing faster than during the earlier #BA2 wave just ~3 months ago. This bodes poorly for other countries with BA5/BA4 rising .,, (cough, US and Canada and mainland Europe)

Pretty sure the CDC was wrong on this... University of Tel Aviv study points to #COVID19 as cause of recent unexplained acute liver failure among children. CDC had blamed it on adenovirus before without testing liver for #SARSCoV2. 🧵

📍DOUBLE REINFECTIONS—wow, both PM Justin Trudeau and Biden’s HHS Secretary Becerra got *reinfected* with #COVID19–from same conference—➡️when did Becerra last get infected? May 18th 2022—not even a full month ago! Trudeau in Jan 2022. I worry it’s reinfections due to #BA5/#BA4.
2) #BA5 and #BA4 are worrisome. They are surging and they have high reinfection potential. Your past BA1/BA2 doesn’t substantially protect you from #Ba5/4

BREAKING—FDA says the #COVID19 vaccine made by Pfizer for children <5 is effective in producing a virus-blocking response and did not raise safety concerns. Overall, preliminary data indicated vaccine was 80.4% effective in preventing symptomatic COVID. 🧵

2) The Pfizer vaccine’s 3 shot efficacy rate was 75.6 percent for babies and toddlers 6 to 23 months old, and 82.4 percent for children 2 to 4 years old.
3) Side effects were minimal and included irritability and drowsiness for children 6 to 23 months old, and pain at the injection site and fatigue for children 2 to 4, the FDA said.

Whoa—China's capital Beijing is experiencing an "explosive" #COVID19 outbreak connected to a bar. "The recent outbreak ... is strongly explosive in nature and widespread in scope," Beijing govt spokesperson says. Many venues are closing/not reopening.

So far, 115 cases and 6,158 close contacts linked to the bar have been reported, throwing the city of 22 million back into a state of anxiety.
