We are targeted by parents of Autistic kids, often because we can type, have friends, jobs, partners etc. It’s because their child’s Autism isn’t like ours they have added learning disabilities. So they become upset and frustrated and take it out on us! #actuallyautistic
They believe we shouldn’t have the same diagnosis as their child as we can do X, Y and Z and their child can’t. They don’t see Autism as a spectrum. They’re in their own little bubble of resentment, frustration and sadness.
Often it’s because they resent their child’s Autism and when they see Autistic adults who don’t have severe learning disabilities they become bitter, jealous and take all that resentment out on us.
Lots seem to be turning on autistic adults as they feel like because some of us can type on the internet we shouldn’t share the same diagnosis as their child (who has added learning disabilities) who is still wearing diapers, non-speaking and has self injurious behaviours
They seem to believe that autism represents “quirky” now when it doesn’t. It’s a disability! They don’t like Autistic people who can talk, who have jobs, have kids, can drive etc having the same diagnosis as their child who they class as “profoundly autistic”.
This seems to be their issue with a lot of autistic adults who speak out on social media as they don’t like that we have the same diagnosis as their child as in their eyes we aren’t like their child and they feel as though Autism is no longer being seen as a disability.
Even though it is a disability and is still a disability for those who have low support needs. It’ll never stop being a disability. But they fear that their children will be spoken over and not talked about/ that the only representation of autism will be “quirky” people
That’s what I’ve got so far… it seems like a lot of fears, assumptions and lack of education about how wide the spectrum is. A lot of their own personal feelings intertwined. And frustration and they take it out on Autistic adults without learning disabilities
They fear that their child’s “profound” Autism (autism with severe learning disabilities) isn’t getting enough awareness and Autistic people without LD’s who can type and use social media are getting more recognition and fear their child’s Autism will be brushed to the side
Which is a load of rubbish as for years the representation of Autism has always been most of those who have added learning disabilities and have high support needs. There was very little awareness of Autistic people who had jobs, families, kids etc.
they’re getting frustrated as the focus isn’t just on them anymore. It’s on us too. they feel like because we can do X, Y, Z and their autistic child can’t, that we shouldn’t share same diagnosis. But they KNOW Autism is BIG spectrum but want to dismiss others of being autistic
One of the parents even recently said “why do they need a diagnosis if they can function and have jobs and communicate”. This is ignorance at its finest. Autism is a disability for us all and we have support needs too. Yes we can to this and that but we often need support
to get support we need we need a diagnosis. Autistic adults who these parents class as “high functioning” have a scarily high suicide rate. Because in reality be aren’t coping and we often don’t get support we need as people assume because we don’t have LD that we don’t need it
We are denied support because people think we can cope without it and because we don’t have an intellectual disability. This is what leads to Autistic peoples deaths. That wrong assumption. Without support lots of us burnout and deteriorate mentally.
All Autistic people no matter if they have a severe intellectual disability or not… deserve support, acceptance and understanding . They deserve the same amount of awareness too. We should all be united, the bullying of Autistic people needs to stop
Autism is a MASSIVE spectrum. Yes we have the same diagnosis as your Autistic child with intellectual disabilities. Every Autistic person is different. We all have our own struggles and strengths. But it doesn’t mean you can dismiss our Autism diagnosis
What people don’t understand is that Autism isn’t an intellectual disability… and it’s not their child’s Autism that makes them “severe’ it’s the added intellectual/ learning disabilities they have ontop of Autism. It’s the intellectual disability that’s severe.
Autistic people who don’t have intellectual disabilities, their Autism is no less valid than Autistic peoples Autism who have intellectual disabilities (who people call “profound” autism). All Autistic peoples Autism is VALID #actuallyautistic#autism#AutismAcceptance

People say “parents know what’s best for their Autistic child” and then wonder why Autistic people get angry… it’s because we know how many Autistic people are killed, abused and neglected by family members.
Autistic peoples lives are not YOUR right to take away just because you believe that’s what’s best and think they’re are a burden.
This was a 3 year old child with his whole life ahead of him.
(I’ve had 3 knee surgeries and will need a knee replacement eventually and I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and heart condition etc)
1. People say I don’t look Autistic.
People also say I don’t look sick or disabled. But it’s not something you can always actually physically see. You can’t see Autism just like you can’t see a lot of disabilities and physical health conditions.
I’m Autistic, I can drive a car, I have a boyfriend, I live by myself in a flat.
People would automatically assume that means I’m “high functioning” but there’s a lot behind the scenes that you don’t realise goes on. I have care workers in daily 3 times a day supporting me
I don’t understand how to sort car insurance out, I don’t understand bills and how to sort them out and need support. I forget to take my medications for my physical health so I have to be prompted to take them. I forget to eat and drink and need reminding.
I have meltdowns just like other Autistic people do, I head bang I rip my hair out, I sometimes rock back and forth, I hit myself in the head with my hands… but you don’t see that do you? As I often hold meltdowns in for when I get home and I’m by myself. It’s part of masking
Russian in Ukrainian military uniform! I knew it, I said all along that Russians are going to wear Ukrainian military uniform and attack civilians to make them distrust the Ukrainian army/also get civilians saying on video they were attacked by Ukrainian army when it was Russians
It’s how Russians get the propaganda on video of civilians talking about Ukrainian army or Azov shooting at them and attacking civilians. When it was actually Russians disguised as Ukrainians. There’s a lot of Russian Saboteurs at work. Honestly it’s disgusting.
I just want this war to stop. Russians have been killing women, children and the elderly and any civilians they want to kill. They’ve been raping CHILDREN and women, they’ve been STEALING and selling Ukrainian peoples property in Belarus or sending it back home to Russia.
Thread about Person First Language and why Identity First language makes more sense and is preferred by Autistic people. Also why a lot of Autistic people view person first language as offensive and harmful! #Autism#actuallyautistic#allautistics#autistic#AutismAcceptanceWeek
Person first language is language such as “person with autism”, “has autism”, “people with autism” etc is seen as ableist as it sees our Autism as something that needs separating from us and that you have to emphasise at the start that we are “people” first which is offensive
Autism has a huge influence on who we are as people it’s part of us, it cannot be separated from us. Our BRAINS are Autistic. Autism DOES define us in a way but THATS OKAY. It’s not all that we are though. We are not “with Autism” we ARE “Autistic”. Autistic isn’t a dirty word
