As a follower of Jesus Christ, a Christian minister for more than 40 years, son of a pastor, and grandson of a pastor, let me say clearly: Christian Nationalism is a heresy and not compatible with the Gospel of the Kingdom of God.

2. There was a time in my life when I was on a wrong path and embraced many ideas associated with Christian Nationalism. I’m so thankful for God’s grace to correct me and lead me to repentance. I’m still learning, still adjusting. But the past 10-15 years have opened my eyes.

3. I love America and am grateful for our nation. The Lord has blessed us in many ways. But I also recognize that like any other nation, we have significant areas of sin, going all the way back to our founding. The Church should be modeling humility and repentance, seeking to ->

4. … influence through our Christlike behavior, not seeking to grasp for power by any means or to dominate the politics of our nation. By constantly fighting culture wars and demonizing our neighbors, we will not only lose our Gospel witness, but actually lose the culture also.

5. Christians, definitely pray for our country. But revival starts with us, Christians; our own repentance from OUR sin (2 Chronicles 7:14). Not pointing fingers!

Do justly, love mercy, walk humbly with God. Seek first God’s Kingdom: righteousness, peace, joy in the Holy Spirit.

6. Christians must stop trying to remove the speck from our neighbor’s eye and start dealing with the log in our own eye.

Do our neighbors really see Christians in America as being fit to “rule and reign” this nation? Have we demonstrated any such fitness? Have we squandered ->

7. … our witness for Jesus in our hot and angry pursuit of political power and influence “by any means necessary” and by giving our adoration to clearly ungodly political cult figures? Have we forgotten our first love in exchange for an idol?

PS — As too many Christians forgot the Gospel of the Kingdom of God in Christ, they became susceptible to the manipulative seduction of politicians, pundits, and prophets who selfishly sought power by co-opting Christian phrases and symbols. Many Christians are deceived by it.

UPDATE: not only do I reject Christian Nationalism, but I reject the racism and misogyny that so often accompanies it. These toxic ideologies have no place in the life of a Christ follower.
