How to earn in @genopets and what's the ROI?

It all revolves around habitats. Without a habitat there's no $Ki tokens to be earned.

You've got a choice. Either you purchase a habitat or you rent a habitat from someone else.

Purchasing can be done through marketplaces such as @MagicEden , @FTX_Official or @fractalwagmi

A genesis habitat or not?

Two advantages to the genesis habitat:
1. Higher amount of $Ki can be harvested daily. Lvl 1 genesis habitat can harvest 40 $Ki daily vs 30 $Ki on a regular one.
2. Choose any crystal to refine. Regular habitats can only do crystals of their type.

Habitat level?

Habitats can be improved through lvl ups. More $Ki can be harvested and more crystals can be refined on a daily basis depending on the level.
Note: The process is costly (around $550 for lvl 1 -> lvl2 at the time of writing)

Cool, so 30-40 $Ki per day for my habitat? - No

Habitats have a lifespan and need repairs (think of durability in #STEPN). It costs 1 refined crystal per day (10 $Ki crafting cost).

Each repair also lowers the durability (HP in #STEPN). A habitat with 0 durability is dormant

Earnings (180 days) for the most basic strategy of owning a lvl 1 habitat, harvest $Ki and refine crystals daily

5,400 (regular habitat) or 7,200 (genesis) in $Ki earnings
- 1,800 $Ki mineral craft cost
- 1,800 $Ki restoration cost

1,800 (regular) or 3,600 (genesis) $Ki

What if I rent a habitat?

The owner of the habitat carries all the costs (repair & restore) & takes the risk. You'll have relinquish most of your earnings.
But if you're not willing to invest in @genopets, then this is the way to make some minimal profits from being active.

Why would anyone rent out their habitat?

A semi-passive income:
1. No need to spend part of their earned XP on the $Ki harvest and can level up their pet faster
2. Owner outsources the work of logging in & harvesting
3. Important to remember to repair & restore when needed

Guilds

@genopets is still in closed beta with a controlled inflow of new users. The game is definitely more complex than other move2earn games such as #STEPN.

There are many different communities (guilds) which are recruiting new members and provide help & eduction.

Closing thoughts

I'm still contemplating on which guild to join and what strategy to follow. I'm doing my daily $Ki harvests & craft crystals when the process is profitable (crystal needs to be worth more than 10 $Ki). I'll make sure to keep posting updates.
